Do we have an estimate of how many ALJs will be hired for the June 29 start date?

I imagine they are shooting for 50. They have a target of 250 for the fiscal year and they are short of that by a pretty good margin. They need to get pretty full classes in to get that number before Oct 1.

Does anyone have an idea as to how many have already been hired for that start date?

I so much want to agree with this Gaidin, but they have done five hires from this register and have never gotten to 50, even though that appears to be the target per class to get to 250 this fiscal year. In fact, the first cert ended up with 70 for two classes. The May class was a little over 20. I don't know what the issues are, but they are not hiring as aggressively as advertised. Sratty reports that the powers that be are very happy with the quality of the register, so the rate of hire is perplexing. And if ODAR needs to request more certs after this hire, it doesn't bode well for the anticipated August and September classes. And, add to that the decision to add to the register. Interesting times.

Interesting times. It's a combination of timing and how fast people respond. If people respond immediately with a yay or nay then they will place more in each class. But it doesn't work that way. People take their full (insert explicative here)24 hours and so on. It's as simple as that. So if you want a full class like ODAR wants a full class have your (insert same explicative here) answer ready!!!!!

I would guess 45 +/- one or two, and that guess goes for the speculated two remaining classes this year as well. That would get them around 240-250 for the FY.

It looks like there were about 62 cities on the April cert poll. About 22 or 23 ALJs were hired for the first class for those certs. If they do not hire for all of the remaining cities for this next class, I guess the unfilled cities will spill over into the following class. Do I have that right? Do any insiders know if they have enough instructors to teach two classrooms or just one classroom for this next class?

SSA can always achieve enough instructors for two classes, but the bigger issue is will SSA be able to hire enough candidates for two classes prior to the start of the class or will people opt to go into a later starting class? Your guess patience is as good as anyone's guess on whether they will have one class in the mid-twenties or two classes totaling somewhere in the mid-forties. Only time will tell in the long run.

Thanks M, that is good to know. Can someone refresh my memory as to when those additional classes are anticipated to start?

I think I remember talk of three more classes for FY 2015: the 6/29 class they are about to hire; and maybe one starting in August and one starting in September.
If they go into constant training mode, there is just enough time to start 4 more classes in FY 2015: 6/29 (the one they're about to hire); 7/27; 8/24; and 9/21. I don't know whether SSA would be willing to set that aggressive a training schedule, or whether they could get the hiring machinery to move quickly enough to hire that many classes in that time frame.
We should have a better idea what SSA is trying to do when we hear from someone who is hired but unable to start 6/29.

Some cities will be added before the next group of hires, and they probably won't all be crapland offices. I think the instructors for two classrooms are booked well in advance, and it's easier to cancel a group of instructors than it is to add them. Instructors for the January class were being informed of their schedule for the May class three months and two classes down the road.

I agree with that they won't necessarily hire for a city just because it is on a cert.
Also, the fact that there has been a previous hire from a city that appears this time doesn't mean they won't hire for that city again before pulling a new set of certs. in
It all depends on transfers, retirements, and probably ability to reach somebody they really want they can't get to any other way!
