Latest rumor is that the "extra 25" will be brought on board (and put into a class) NLT mid-August.

JH, I have heard that, as well; and it seems likely. When the Agency calculates productivity, new ALJ hires are not counted as 100% available for several months. The extra 25 in August would give (it is hoped) a boost in dispositions that would mean an increase in the productivity ratio. This is something that the Agency could brag about in Congressional hearings.

Is it safe to assume that SSA will request the supplemental certificate after completing the hires on the current one?

Is it safe to assume that SSA will request the supplemental certificate after completing the hires on the current one? "Safe" has a whole new meaning in this day and age..... I think it's probably a sure thing that as soon as SSA has the authorizations for the 25 slots "in hand" they will request a cert from OPM, whether or not they have finished the current hire.

I guess that requesting the new cert now would maximize their flexibility.
There would be no need to interview anyone . . .

new cities mean new people never before interviewed.... Mebbe. About 2/3rds of my location availability did not appear on the FEAI. So it is entirely possible that many who are on the Cert would re-appear because of expanded locations. On the other hand, of course, PatriotsFan may have a shot!!!

Remember, the locations selected are those with vacant offices for ALJs (at least that's what I've heard). True. But since the initial Cert did not include any cities in Region 1, Patriotsfan and I remain hopeful that a new Cert of 25 will include at least one of our geographic preferences. (Please, God! Please, God! Please, God!) While most of my colleagues are complaining bitterly about inhospitable weather in D.C. today (what's a little ice?), I consider the Wintery Mix to be good training for some nice, cold spot in New England. . .
