Evansville is a mystery to me. If your aren't from around there, you can live your entire Hoosier life and never visit. Northern Indiana has much harsher winters than Southern Indiana. Winters of late have been fierce in Central and Northen Indiana, so I hear. You get snow, sometimes blizzards and sometimes negative wind chills. Anyone remember the Blizzard of 78? Burr! I had to flee years ago.

Today's city is Valapraiso, indiana.
i could not find any notable singers/bands from area and i have may have missed them. However, athlete Jeff Samardzija is from this town. He was a dual baseball player/football player at Notre Dame and has played in the MBA as well. Since we are still working on the state of Indiana, below is a clip from his Notre Dame days. He is teh receiver #83 in this clip.

I think if you are hired into the Valpo HO they force your eyelids open Clockwork-Orange-style and make you watch this over and over:
Also, those from gentler climes should take note that Valparaiso, being situated just south of Lake Michigan, gets a lot more snow than the Illinois part of the Chicago area due to the lake effect (north and northwest winds being much more common than easterly winds).

The ultimate delicacy in Evansville, IN. I worked up there before going to law school, and I played softball with a co-worker. After we played, we went to a sports bar and she would order these sandwiches. I really wanted to try one, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. The onion rings were awesome though, as was the beer. Heavy German influence in southern Indiana and just across the river from Henderson, Kentucky. The Ohio River and its adjoining river cities have a rich history of invention, entrepreneurship and of course, Horse Racing

Des Moines /dɨˈmɔɪn/ is the capital and the most populous city in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is also the county seatof Polk County. A small portion of the city extends into Warren County. It was incorporated on September 22, 1851, as Fort Des Moines which was shortened to "Des Moines" in 1857. It is named after the Des Moines River, which may have been adapted from the French Rivière des Moines, meaning "River of the Monks". The city's population was 203,433 as of the 2010 census. The five-county metropolitan area is ranked 91st in terms of population in the United States with 599,789 residents according to the 2013 estimate by the United States Census Bureau.
Des Moines is a major center of the U.S. insurance industry and has a sizable financial services and publishing business base. In fact, Des Moines was credited as the "number one spot for U.S. insurance companies" in a Business Wire article and named the third largest "insurance capital" of the world. The city is the headquarters for the Principal Financial Group, AtheneUSA insurance, the Meredith Corporation, Ruan Transportation, EMC Insurance Companies, and Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield. Other major corporations such as Wells Fargo, Voya Financial, Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company, ACE Limited, Marsh, Monsanto and Pioneer Hi-Bred have large operations in or near the metro area. In recent years Microsoft, Hewlett Packard and Facebook have established data processing and logistical facilities in the Des Moines metro. Forbes magazine ranked Des Moines as the "Best Place for Business" in both 2010 and 2013. In 2014, NBC ranked Des Moines as the "Wealthiest City in America" according to its criteria.
Des Moines is an important city in U.S. presidential politics because it is the capital of Iowa, which is home to the first caucuses of the presidential primary cycle. Hence, many presidential candidates set up campaign headquarters in Des Moines. A 2007 article in The New York Times stated "if you have any desire to witness presidential candidates in the most close-up and intimate of settings, there is arguably no better place to go than Des Moines".

So on vacation I went to the shores of Lake Apopka and then to the shores of Lake Michigan.
I can make these statements with some certainty.
People in Indiana are the slowest drivers I have ever encountered. These are a people who clearly are not in a hurry to get anywhere.
Southern Illinois feels as empty as the Mojave Desert its just greener.
Atlanta is always a crappy place to drive.
Huge sections of Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Georgia are under construction. The parts of Kentucky and Indiana that are not should be.
Chicago never stops being a great city.
Its really good to be home.

Having driven through every southern state at some point or another I can tell you that isn't true. I was in Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee on this trip and in each of them traffic flowed at or above the speed limit the vast majority of the time. In Indiana not so much.
