Good information about ALJ hiring process, streaming live right now Of note: -5,005 people applied the last time around. -Only 261 individual names for 81 locations on the register -not likely going to be able to hire 250 this year. www.hsgac.senate.gov/

OPM rep just said that there are about 600 people on the current register. This is a fascinating discussion.

And apparently SSA has the money to hire large numbers of ALJs but its hands are tied because OPM is not sending enough qualified people on the certs to fulfill the hiring. So much information to digest.

Also, if my estimate of 144 interviews is accurate, 55 percent of the eligibles on the certs are new to SSA.

Only 600 on the register, even after the recent add-ons? Surprising. And isn't this the first time that OPM has publicly disclosed like this how many are on the register?

Holy Guacamole Batman! That means 45% of the people on these certs could be hired. Except that I will bet that a good number of those are people ODAR has already considered multiple times and has pretty much decided they don't want. But, they will never make their hiring goals over the next year and will fall further behind they don't give some of those folks another look. The refresh group (those that survive of the 5005 - rhyme not intentional, but it works) won't hit the register until next year sometime.

Thank you all for the detailed narrative. I am offsite for work today so I do not have computer access.

It's an interesting plan Ms. Gruber presented, but how temporary would these AAJ position actually be? I have so many questions. I read her testimony once the hearing was over and it appears that, despite the request at the end for a "pause" on action, the plan will be implemented. No coherent explanation of why the hiring process takes so long for ALJs, nor why the current register has so many newer faces (I wish I was one of them) - but for those who've been hanging in there, what a frustrating scene. Again, so many questions. If only we ran the zoo.

So, what does this mean, "Holy cow! a case coming out bigger than the WV case? That's madness!" It was in response to the Senator indicating that there's a new case coming out that will be bigger than the $600 million fraud case involving Conn, Daugherty and Adkins - I continue to be stunned by this sort of thing.
