I am so old that when I called the radio station to talk to a DJ for that song request, I didn't even have to dial an area code! Same here. I am also old enough to remember when most of what we listened to was AM radio. Does anyone else remember drive in movies and putting people in the car trunk to get more people in for the same price? Not sure what a drive in movie is, but I have an idea. Pix.

You sit in your car and watch the movie through the windshield for a few minutes until ... we'll, you can guess the rest.

Wow - now I'm feeling downright elderly! I remember calling in for song dedications (no area code needed) AND went to drive-in movies!

I remember having a TV with only 5 stations with an antenna on the roof, phones that were stuck on the wall and wondering how long to let the phone ring before giving up, writing letters and waiting weeks for a reply and using an encyclopedia for research. Now, a smart phone can give you multiple channels and TV/movies on demand, instant dialing, voicemail, text messages, Email and multiple other ways to communicate and immediately receive replies and use Google for research of anything. I'm curious how that will change in 10 years when my son gets a phone.

Nope. Just VHF. We didn't have a receiver for UHF and even then our channels were fuzzy at times. Our TVs had dents from the impact.

Back in my day, by cracky, Chicago had three network stations, one independent station, and one educational station. All of them were off the air by midnight or so, but you could watch the test pattern--after they played the national anthem--until they were back on the air in the morning.

And telephone numbers were known by exchanges that started with two letters (APpleton 7-7232)!

I think you guys are making some of this up. I mean some sort of establishment where the movie is watched through the windshield of the car, TV reception that doesn't come through the cable and calling a radio station and talking to the DJ? Your are making this up, right? Pixie.

I, of course, am also tooooo young to have any contact with these things, but I have seen them in old movies and TV shows. Pix, try catching the documentary series, "Happy Days," on Nick at Nite for a historical perspective of such things.

"Party line" can mean different things to different people.

"Party line" can mean different things to different people. I'm pretty sure we've strayed pretty far from the "Got The Call" topic. Not to be a party line pooper.
Maybe we should start a thread called "For ONLY when you Got The Call."

I'd love for this to become my problem. gary -- I don't know you and I am a newbie to this forum over the last several months. I enjoy reading posts that are not related to my current situation (waiting to do the 2nd phase) but everytime I see your name as a recent post on this I get hopeful for you! Hope your offer comes soon. Good luck
