I only chose one city (due to teenage kid situation) and I now have learned with 100% certainty that my one city was one of the 6 that got nixed after the certificate was issued. So, how about those other 25? Or 31? slots to be filled by the end of FY 2008?? Will it be the same process that they will send a checklist of cities with openings that I chose on the original application? They won't require a SECOND interview in D.C. will they? Best wishes to all still in the running. May you be granted the patience and stamina to endure to a happy result!

We cannot add cities until they post the job again. Therefore, it will be luck of the draw to see which of the cities originally listed make the next certificate if it is pulled before the job gets reposted.

<<Which city was it?>>
Fort Worth.
<<Therefore, it will be luck of the draw to see which of the cities originally listed make the next certificate if it is pulled before the job gets reposted.>>
I don't understand exactly what you mean about "pulling" and "reposting" (Remember I am not-a Fed!). But there were cities I picked on my original application that were not on the vacancy list. So are you saying it will just be luck-of-the-draw that those cities will have vacancies on the next hiring round?
What do you mean by " before the job gets reposted"?

Sorry your city got nixed . What he is saying is that OPM will not let you add cities to your list until the application is re-opened. I you had other cities (i.e. Dallas) already on your list they will be considered for the next round of 25+or - judges that are selected if there is a need for judges. If the ONLY city you named was Ft. Worth, then you will have to wait until the application is re-opened before adding more cities (like Huntington). We will be full with the three that we are getting with this list but several of the judges are retirement age and may be leaving within a couple of years.

We cannot add cities until they post the job again. OPM told me that a candidate can add cities to the candidate's geographic preference list one year after the application process closes or/b] when OPM announces a new application process. . .

As soon as the smoke clears from this round of offers, I expect SSA will ask for the next certificate to fill 30-some slots (the 25 mentioned earlier, plus the 6 that were'nt offered this time, plus any declinations they can't fill). So if you didn't get the brass ring this time (or even get to ride the merry-go-round horse), your chance may be coming very soon. For those of you who interviewed this round, if you are on the next certificate, you won't be interviewed again, so since there will be far fewer interviews needed, this should go really fast, especially with a rumored report date in mid July. Hold on to your hats!

That would be great news about the additional option of adding, but I wonder what date they are using for the close of the process? I originally thought that there was the possibility of adding after one year and I got argued down by some people at my office. If you checked with OPM then I defer to your better source. ;D

I see that someone else explained about job postings on USAJOBs and certificates being pulled. Sorry about the confusion. We both had FTW listed, but I have some bad news for you. FTW and all of the TX cities have waiting lists for transfers and they are considered very "popular" inside ODAR. It is probably the weather and cost of living. If there is any possible way that you can add cities to your list, I suggest that you do it. I think that it will be quite a wait to get past transfers, vets, etc with availability for only one popular office. It can be done. I know an ALJ who waited on the old register for about 7 years with fabulous credentials and vet points for one TX office. I already know of some of the "Boomer" ALJs filing for retirement this year, so there will definitely need to be more hires within the next couple of years. I was told by a coworker that ODAR has the oldest cadre of ALJs in federal service. There are quite a number of active ALJs that I have personally met who are older than the Boomers and eligible to retire whenever they get tired of coming to the office.

That would be great news about the additional option of adding, but I wonder what date they are using for the close of the process? I asked that question in my interview and, as I recall, was told that it was closed in August and that I would have to wait until Aug 2008 to open my choices. I'm not sure how reliable that info is, but that's what I got.
