Hey c'mon Boley, Fargo is looking better all the time the longer I wait for an offer! It has been such a long time that I've posted on this website that I had a tough time remembering my password! Good luck to all and glad to see many are getting offers!

Hey, GP, thanks for starting my heart again. I don't post much (because I follow the board on my cell phone) but I read it all the time. Every time I have refreshed my e-mail I have hoped for good news and all I've been getting are ads. OK, OK, I'll buy the tickets for concerts in my area / bouquets of fresh flowers / certified NCAA merchandise / 15% off at Bloomingdales if I just can get an offer thrown in!

Just looking over the raw data being reported it appears that the offers are going out roughly by Regions. Offers have been made in regions 2,3,4, and parts of 5 and 7. (Region 1 had no offices on the list.) There have been no reported offers made in Regions 8, 9, and 10. Basically offers are going out to the eastern half of the country at this time. Good news if you were looking forward to Fargo or West Los Angeles ! Tommorrow is another day. I would think it likely that either 5 or 7 is complete, and we just don't know about it. It seems like they would be doing one at a time if they are going in region order. I think 7 is probably done. Because I have slots in it. So it's probably done.

Happy is not so happy. However, Happy will be happiER if, in fact, no offers for 8, 9, or 10 have actually gone out because that's where Happy wants to be. Unfortunately, I heard from a friend last night that someone he knew had been offered and had accepted Fargo. Here's hoping he was misinformed . . . .

OK. It's almost 8:00 Eastern. I know those government employees come in early. Here comes the second round! (Unless they wait for afternoon again...but why would they?) If it helps, when I received my offer a few years ago, only one person was making all the phone calls. It may be the same situation this time, too.

Why would one of the first offers be made in Kansas then? Maybe it's by the city's placement on the certification, i.e., the highest city got the highest scorer and so on. UPDATE - Nevermind - I emailed Pat Rocheford and found out that selections were made before they got to my score - congratulations to those who made it and to those still alive in the game. I am worn out. Good bye.

Having received my offer late yesterday afternoon, I can think of a good reason for the offers to be made late in the day, at least to current SSA employees: no work will get done for quite some time afterwards! It is hard to work when one is in shock!

I have it on reasonably good authority that all of the offers have been made. They have not, of course, backfilled any declinations yet, but I think I will need to change my moniker to "Unhappy."

To those still waiting, odarite has sound advice. It appears the last 25 (31?) will be hired effective July, right behind these three training classes.

With my low-60s score and fairly limited availability, I'm not holding my breath for a cert of roughly 94 people.
But thanks for the encouragement.

With my low-60s score and fairly limited availability, I'm not holding my breath for a cert of roughly 94 people. But thanks for the encouragement. I agree 100%. When I got my score and calculated my estimated percentile, I described to someone the only "perfect storm" of factors that would even get me an interview: a huge cert, a lot of high scorers with limited geography, and no openings in those limited cities. We had all of those things this time. After the register reopens, we will have 1) more high scorers (moving us lowbies down the list), and 2) more peopple with greater geographical preference (at laest some of whom are going to end up getting in the way of our city choices above us). I do not currently believe (I hope I'm wrong) that another 150 will be hired before that happens. Maybe a few small certs here and there. But even with another big, 150 person cert, the potential for low scorers just isn't what we thought it might be. A new 150 would take almost everyone on the register onto the cert. Currently, the top 3/4 were on the cert. 1/3 of 3/4 were appointed. The information seems to be that only a few exceptional individuals actually jumped ahead in hiring line due to non-score related variables. Combining that info with the fact that the 1/4 of applicants who didn't make this cert contained a lot of people with no relevant geographical preference, but higher scores than those selected this time, we can deduce that if we were in the bottom 1/3 now, we'll be no higher than the middle 1/3 next time (possibly less). Thus, with a similar selection system, we're still less likely to be appointed that we thought we were this time. No real cause for hope, at least in my case.

Does anyone know if offers went out for Seattle, Spokane, Billings, and Sacramento yet? I don't see that posted on Propmaster's listing of cities. Could it be that those offers were made to individuals not posting on this site? Or could it be they will be filled with the next cert? I take it if they plan to do more interviewing, the wait could now be another 2 months or more?

I am there - highly recommended by ALJs and the like but did not get an offer. I was just looking on USAjobs to find an agency that I could get more litigation experience from for the ALJ. I think Agency experience was not rated as high as everyone thinks in the AR.

I would suggest that ODAR experience would be good for those with lots of litigation, but little administrative law experience.
On the other side, other experience would be good for those in ODAR but little litigation.
Might I suggest that those in ODARS at or near regional headquarters consider applying for SSA OGC slots? (I hear that a number of OGC attorneys were offered and accepted ALJ positions).

I don't know, but would sure like to know the answer to this question. Are they done with the hiring yet?
Pixie--or any insider, do you know? Thanks

I take it if they plan to do more interviewing, the wait could now be another 2 months or more? Not every site will end up getting judges assigned, according to some other posts (and the reduction to 144 offers). I am becoming increasingly convinced (currently about 86%) that all offers have been sent and only clean up offers (I estimate 3-4%) for people who turn down the job are yet to be filled. We represent about 1/3 of the cert and 1/3 of the offers, so we can expect about 2/3 of the slots not to be recorded on here. Also, some members have retained anonymity to hide their online ID when they report to their posts. Thus, the 40+ each of sites and board members really reflects about 53-56 appointees (more than 1/3), of whom about 3-8 are not board members, but the information was gleaned other ways. I have said before that I think this board skews East coast (not that there's anythign wrong with that - even online communities have patterns). Likewise I have expressed the opinion that SSA is trying to get people (when possible) near their homes to prevent future transfer issues. If these assumptions are true, it could explain why this board sees so many appointments in the east, and very few in the west. We have not had anything other than a trickle of new offers reported in some time. If you have a city for which no acceptance is recorded (or even better, when a rejection is recorded ala West LA) you could still have hope of being number two there. Otherwise, I think we're about done. I packed my hope in mothballs and shipped it back to the farm to stay in the barn with my G.I. Joes and my prom dress. (P.S. - I don't have a prom dress, but it's the kind of thing you put in moth balls, right?)

According to another thread here, COSS said yesterday he wants to have a total of 1,250 ALJs in 2009, with 1,175 now with this year's hires. That would mean 75 more ALJs hired plus enough to cover attrition (50 or so?) next year. That would be another big hire. It could take less time than this hire, now that this class has gone before.
