As I remember from my youth, Peter, Paul and Mary had the original hit, with Mary singing lead. The lyrics have always been a mystery to me--why was she leaving, where was she going, when was she coming back and why did she want one more kiss from him? Maybe some of you word smiths out there have it figured out. Pixie Mary Travers' vocal on this John Denver song (especially the first verse) is what made this such a hit. She's in love but must leave, and worse: "I don't know when I'll be back again". This could very well be a song about departing for a new ALJ position in some far off city. Yes, I got that much of it, but there is still a lot of it that is unexplained. I guess we could ask the author, but, unfortunately, it is too late for that. Pixie

Oh, gary...too soon, too soon. Really? It's been 19 years. Somehow although I LOVE the song Leaving on a Jet Plane and liked John Denver a lot, it escaped me all these years that he wrote the song. So while I may never get the elusive ALJ job, I have increased my knowledge of pop music history, and I thank you all for that.

When PP&M got the hit with it in the late 60s, it started his rise to stardom. If you want more musical education, there is another music thread in the past also started by Christina. She just can't seem to keep her mind on the task at hand. Pixie

Knows her music, she does......all of that about Christina's focus is really funny when you consider that she has more posts than even Pixie. Breadth of experiences add to one's ability to serve as a judge and fully relate to claimants, without doubt. Rock on, Christina!
