Hello again<
I want to thank the members who provided answers to my questions regarding "Litigation experience" it was very helpful. I was told by a Federal Reviewing Official about a textbook to study to prepare for the ALJ exam, I believe she called it the Mullen's (sp?) ALJ handbook. I can't seem to locate it on-line. Does anyone know where I might secure a copy ? Again thank you in advance, this site is a great resource !

Here it is: ualr.edu/malj/malj.pdfI think it is of almost no benefit at all in the testing process but arguably worthwhile once you become an ALJ. A better book to help in the testing process, even though it is more than 10 years old, is: The ALJ Handbook: An Insider's Guide to Becoming a Federal Administrative Law Judge by Sutherland and Hermann

I found a copy in the local law school library. I found it helpful and accurate with regard to both the OPM interview and the WD

For a slightly different perspective than Mullins and for general reference, the NYS Dept of Civil Service has published a "Manual for Administrative Law Judges and Hearing Officers" at www.cs.state.ny.us/pio/hearingofficermanual/tochearingofficer.htmFor testing purposes, the ALJ Handbook referenced above was a very useful resource.

I found "The ALJ Handbook: An Insider's Guide to Becoming a Federal Administrative Law Judge" to have been quite helpful in that it gave me some sense to what the process was about. For an outsider, I had no idea what the WD and SI was going to be about. This book (booklet) gave me insight on what to expect. Not sure it helped as far as my score (LOL), but it helped me prep mentally.
Its interesting to note how different the scoring was. From reading the sections on scoring in that booklet, I was expecting scores to be in the 90s with low scores in the 80s. That certainly wasn't the case this time around. Its sad that there is much less transparancy in the scoring methodology this time around.
