That is almost exactly right. It really isn't a fiddle, but it does resemble one, as well as a cello. The upright bass used to be called a bass fiddle in some circles. I think bluegrass and country liked that term. Pixie aka a bull fiddle.

Yes, the electric bass, or as it used to sometimes be called, the Fender bass. Unlike the upright bass, most of the electric basses had frets on the neck to make it easier to stay in tune. The upright basses were fretless, and the bassist had to know exactly where to place the fingers for chording (feel for the notes). There are a few of the electric basses that are fretless. The bass has the same lower four strings of the guitar, but tuned an octave lower and with heavier strings. Right, Fender didn't invent the electric bass, but he did more to develop and promote the instrument than any other individual or company. Another mark for you gary. I feel like I’m earning points toward the winning of the House Cup. You are right there at the top. For a while, there, bayou was giving you a good run, but then he . . . . well let's just say he fell from grace.

OK, gary , you know the difference between crickets and cicadas, but do you know the name of the instrument on the far right of the picture above? Also, what is the American musicians nickname for it? This one is pretty easy. Pixie It is a big fiddle. bayou you crack me up. I don't know SH--- from Shinola when it comes to music.

bayou you crack me up. I don't know SH--- from Shinola when it comes to music. Then you know all you need to know. There are too many Destroyer of the Arts on these threads. Paint by number types who are consumed by technocratic babel. Robotic sheep who are slaves to perceived rules of art without understanding that art is created by breaking the rules. Put an apostrophe here, don't use this verb, drill down into the details of the making of art so that the soul of it os destroyed, say things like you have to use a w hole harmonica tuned to e flat on nights when the moon is 3/2 full if you play the blues on the west bank of the Mississippi on a Monday after labor day.....or you could be Hendrix and flip a right handed guitar upside down, play it left handed and blast the rules into pieces.

This is why he fell from grace ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ All musicians, who have been playing for more than a few months speak the language and understand and follow the rules. Jimi Hendrix very much followed the rules and spoke the language. He understood about I chords, IV chords, V chords and when to play them. He understood about 5ths, 12 bars, chord progressions (changes), turnarounds, bending notes, playing in tune and much more. He spoke the standard language all musicians speak. As an example of musician speak, and I think I have used this before, here is what a guy I know said about one of his favorite performers: Man, 1 yesterday I heard him play the coolest 2 solo. He came in on the turnaround, started his solo on the I chord and then played 2 12s before going back to comping. 3The three of us in on the conversation knew exactly what he was talking about, but a non musician would have no idea. Jimi knew the rules, understood the rules and followed the rules. He also spoke the language. I never knew Jimi as he came along before my time, but I did meet his bass player, Billy Cox, 4 and that is the way he talked. All musicians talk the same language and all follow the same rules. The rules are there for a reason. 5 Remember, musicians aren't sucking the soul out of the music, they are the ones who create it and play it; they put the soul in the music. _________________ 1. Musicians ofter start their sentences with "Man" or intersperse it throughout the sentence. 2. Cool, or a variation thereof is often used by musicians. 3. Musician speak for accompaniment. 4. Billy played with Jimi at Ft. Campbell while Jimi was in the Army and later on after the Jimi Hendrix Experience. 5. Mainly so the players can stay together and not hurt their listeners' ears.

All pro's made it look easy. Jimi could look like he was casual because he had the long training with backup bands for the Isley Brothers, Little Richard and even Joey Dee! Gifted from the beginning (he started by playing a one string ukelele he also had decades of playing because he wanted and needed to play. Best cut for my money: Red House. Spare, each note where it should be and unencumbered by others.

As long as we are discussing folk music mark your calendars and try to schedule DC trips so you can catch the DC folklife festival. Always good roots music, much of it great, you'll hear tunes and styles of music you might otherwise never run into. And it's free! As it's on the Mall, parking is a sometime thing, but y'all Mall crawlers so you know that. festival.si.edu/

Actually Foghorn started it by posting the sound of Cicadas and then calling them Crickets. It sorta took off from there. After a thread is 4 or 5 pages long, they do tend to creep a bit. Pixie

I have moved all of the DC invite posts to the appropriate thread. I wish I remembered who started posting in this unrelated thread so I could punish him, but I didn't make a note of it. I imagine it was aa guy as they are the hardest to control and the most likely to screw things up. I have very few problems with the females on the board. Well, except for pumpkin.

From what I've heard no one has received the parameters for DC testing.
On my request for a re-score, it was promptly docketed. I believe they will hold any response until they send me the formal f.o.b. they promised (not sure why the precatory f.o.b. to be followed by the embossed f.o.b.(suitable for framing).

I am pretty certain the testing window will begin March 5, 2018.
Hopefully the Congress will pass a budget by then (especially considering it will be half way through the fiscal year already).
