Will this be true training or is it propaganda designed to push ALJs to produce more decisions?

This is a genuine scandal. I hope the papers that are covering the hearing backlog hardships to claimants pick up this story. While claimants are losing their home to foreclosure, the hearing offices will effectively be closed for a week for ALJs to stay at a hotel and enjoy their per diems at nice restaurants. This fiasco could add 10,000 cases to the backlog and cost upto $2,000,000.

I think the point of this is to advise the ALJs of the productivity requirements and give hints at how to turn out more decisions. After this "training" is held, the blame will then be placed even more heavily on the shoulders of ALJs for the backlog. After all, they had a special training session for them this year. Why are they still behind? They must be lazy. New rules are therefore needed allowing stricter control and greater supervision over these lazy ALJs.
The union needs to drop that ridiculous lawsuit regarding "advanced notice" and start paying attention to what is going on elsewhere.

Looking at the dates, it does not look like they expect the new crop of ALJs to attend this training as the June class will be in Training during the July dates.

Following up on the prior post, I was advised today by my regional office that new ALJs who will be having their own training in Baltimore will not also be going to the regional conferences.

Following up on the prior post, I was advised today by my regional office that new ALJs who will be having their own training in Baltimore will not also be going to the regional conferences. I, for one, am relieved to hear this, as after spending July in Baltimore, I don't know how kindly my family would take to my spending a week in New Orleans in August. Besides, no offense to you southerners, but NOLA in August just doesn't sound like my idea of a good time.

Pardon, Monsieur!
Though I would concede New Orleans is a tad warm and humid in August, I venture to say you could have a good time.
Wear some comfortable linen, seersucker, or cotton, eat some seafood, sip a mojito or Cuba libre, listen to some jazz or Zydeco, walk through a historic neighborhood and enjoy the architecture, chat with some residents, ride a streetcar, and just people watch.
Laissez les bon temps rouler!!

A bad day in New Orleans is better than a good day in Baltimore. The thought of another chance to eat in Paul Prudhomme's Louisiana Kitchen has me salivating.

That and Emeril's NOLA is some of the best eating we've ever done; anywhere, any continent... Oh, I definitely agree. I was in NOLA just last June, had a lovely time for the most part (except for the part where I had to spend 9-5 in a hotel conference room), and the best meal was definitely at Emeril's NOLA. But it was quite hot enough for me in June. I don't really need to experience August. And I tend to agree with ALJhunter - good food can be found in BOTH B'more and NOLA.
