Basically you have no chance of getting that job unless you already work at BVA. They pretty much exclusively hire from their ranks. What he says is pretty accurate. It’s not exclusively Board insiders, but the few others who have been hired have come from VA OGC or the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (staff counsel). No experience with Title 38 USC/CFR? It’s a real long shot. So essentially, yes, very insider-heavy. Nice work if you can get it, though. VLJ is a great job.

I hear rejections are going out for the HHS job in the Departmental Appeals Board. I applied and never heard anything. So I am sure my rejection is in the mail.
Anyone interview or get an offer?
Anyone on Board work there now or previously?
Any intel about HHS attorney hiring would be greatly appreciated.
This job was never on usajobs. I just heard about it because of this board. Sharing is Caring. Thanks

I just got notice that the EEOC examiner position (Atlanta I believe) was filled. And not by me. For those keeping track.

I just got notice that the EEOC examiner position (Atlanta I believe) was filled. And not by me. For those keeping track. I applied for the one in Milwaukee and the one in NoVa and got the same response. I still can’t believe they hire for that position at only a GS 13. My understanding is that it’s an adversarial system admin judge position. Seems 15 should be the max performance level (if they don’t want to use the ALJ scale), and at minimum, they should bring you in as a 14.

Patent ALJ! They say no patent experience required--but you know they want it. If you got it---https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/488320100

That’s funny. I am sure you need patent experience. They likely mean you do not need experience working at the USPTO

Patent ALJ! They say no patent experience required--but you know they want it. If you got it---https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/488320100 They say they prefer 10-15 years of it. Plus, you have to have a very specific technical background in addition to a BS in a STEM field. Pretty sure that knocks out around 85 percent of us. If I could have handled the hardcore math and science courses as an undergrad, I’d be a doctor right now.

True that, but for the 15 % or even 5% of the Board that might qualify--at least it's open to the public.

If you think you can live on $100K in LA, and think you'd actually want to live there, there are "several" openings with Homeland Security. It requires 3-5 years of experience as an attorney. "To qualify for the GS-13 you must have at least three (3) years of professional legal experience, or at least (one) 1 year of prior GS-12 experience to include any relevant experience gained prior to earning a J.D., in one or more of the following areas: immigration law, including naturalization, denaturalization, family based immigration; employment based immigration and affirmative federal litigation, including criminal prosecution." www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/493208000

What's the deal with the new log in procedures for USAJobs.gov? Generating a new code to be sent to your phone and a sixteen character alpha numeric key every time you want to log in? It's always been pretty user-hostile, but this is a new low.
