By the way OMHA is starting to send out referred notices (been referred, may get call for interview) for Cleveland and Seattle for AA and SAA I have heard. I do not know if such notices have been emailed for other cities. The notice is sent from the usastaffingoffice Good luck to those who have applied. I know that referral notices have been sent out for some of the other OMHA job postings beyond Cleveland and Seattle. For example, I know that referrals have been made for supervisory and senior AA positions for at least Phoenix, Albuquerque, and New Orleans. Is anyone aware if there have been calls for interviews yet? Thanks!

I had an interview for SAA in New Orleans this past week. I just received a referral for saa in savannah. I assumed those positions were filled months ago so I thought it was a mistake. I know a referral doesn’t mean much, but has anyone been contacted for interview?

Hi Buckeyfan. Good luck to you with Savannah!!
I also recently received email referral notices about Savannah and other OHOs. That really surprised me because I had sent applications in when they were first posted months ago. I do take some comfort in knowing that just because MONTHS go by with no word after an opening closes, that doesn't mean a position has been filled--or even initial screening and interviews begun--yet. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the slow pace of SSA field OHO hiring is partially due to the "uncertainty" created by the EO in July. Perhaps many of those OHOs were just waiting for the dust to settle a bit and for further "directions" or "official" approval to proceed with hiring from SSA mgmt. post-EO. Just my [un]educated guess, mind you, not based on any specific "insider knowledge". Perhaps others inside SSA can weigh in on whether EO is affecting the pace or process of AA hiring out in the field OHO offices outside of DC.

Simple answer is they have extra money available than they initially allocated for hires, so they are hire a few more and in some places maybe offers were declined/applicant didn’t pass background/attrition, so they are backfilling those spots. EO had zero affect on hiring process as announcements came out months before offers. They had $90-100 million to spend for backlog, so they are making sure to spend every dollar before end of FY. Typical this time of year when hiring is possible.

Some of you had some really good info and advice on AUSA and FPD jobs a while back. Would you happen to have any info on the ATF, particularly Attorney Advisors? I managed to land an interview and I'm not able to find a lot of info outside of the vacancy announcement. If anyone has any inside knowledge, experience working with them or tips for the interview, I would love to hear it all.

Most states base reciprocity on the jurisdiction of initial admission.
Some states grant no reciprocity at all. E.g. SC, FL, HI, CA, NV & AZ.
If I had a friend or relative who was a law student, I would encourage taking the DC bar first.
Maximum reciprocity, and no annual CLE!
GA allows law students to take the bar exam before graduation. It would be nice if DC did this.

It would be nice if DC did this. Times must have changed--I had DC bar (and as a DC resident no other) found I still had to take the Ct Bar exam (full exam); attorney exams for Md. and another state. This frosted me as DC, then under the thumb of Congress, allowed pretty much everyone in, even from California and Florida which don't seem to know the meaning of the word reciprocity. So having had to take the suckers I'm loathe to let any go. While the DC bar has no required CLE, if you have been inactive and wish to reactivate (or if you were booted for non-payment and want to be an attorney again) you must retake the mandatory attorney course www.dcbar.org/cle/obligation.cfmI don't view the CLE as onerous as there's always some good conference on case presentation (NJAJ have some excellent seminar series), or higher level evidence law that I'd want to take and that gives me the extra impetus to get it into my calendar. Most Bar meetings give you 4-8 CLE hours anyway, and if you present at a course you get the credit as if you'd taken it.

Florida does not have any kind of reciprocity. If you want to practice in Florida, you'll have to take their bar exam.

As a current 12 it is not of much interest either, but for someone newer to federal service it sounds interesting.

Looks like it stops at a gs-9 so no thanks!! Yes it appears to top out at GS12, but to have to hire at GS9 would be rough. My first job as an AA with the feds started at a 9. Topped out at a 14, though. The first year, I was lucky to be single and have minimal responsibilities, because the money was really sucky. Luckily, the grade increases were pretty steady after that.
