Not a judgy job at all - think judicial law clerk. It's still good training for a DW who feels stuck and wants to become an ALJ, if and when SSA ever hires again. Alas, since it is posted as a GS-15, only feds with 52+ weeks at GS-14 or higher are eligible. That keeps the DWs out of consideration, unless they may have had a year as a HOD or similar.

Oh, I am sorry to hear that, as it really would be a good stepping stone to ALJ-land! Anyway, I highly recommend applying, it's a good job and an important mission.

Not just ALJ's only but the candidate must have held an AL-2 position for at least one year.

Have a background in Federal Labor laws? Here's a LIMITED TO FIRST 50 GS13/14 job basically clerking for a Board Member which is kinda sorta judgy. www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/574986700This one from Pension Guarantee Corp is limited in number and still open so if you have a leaning towards personnel type litigation this could give you a shot: www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/574489500 (I didn't include it earlier as it seemed closed for a while) it's a 14 Good luck!

Are you someone who believes in using all that highly detailed data the agency has been collecting on employees to identify "performance gaps" and optimize human capital for greater efficiency? Or a political appointee who wants to burrow? Either way, this SES job might be for you. www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/575671200The position includes advising and consulting on new strategic directions related to agency performance and identifying opportunities for innovative change that will improve upon these efforts and significantly advance the successful achievement of agency performance measures. The incumbent improves the agency's performance by navigating through cross-component shared priorities by conducting data driven reviews of component performance and spurring innovative customer experience solutions for solving performance gaps across the agency. In addition, the incumbent: Through a broad and thorough review, assesses agency-wide performance initiatives and cross agency priority goals to coordinate achievement of such goals. Develops collaborative component-wide networks to advance initiatives across the agency in order to provide recommendations to the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and other senior staff for revisions or changes in strategic direction. Evaluates current performance management practices throughout the agency and renders formal advice to agency leadership to reduce agency risks, improve data transparency, and improve customer service. You said a mouthful! "..... navigating through cross-component shared priorities by conducting data driven reviews of component performance and spurring innovative customer experience solutions for solving performance gaps across the agency. "
D-mn! That is some verbiage!

I saw an announcement--looked interesting geographically, Announcement date 8/17, close date 8/21. A little short, but ...who knows? (Or maybe they had a fave and we were just window dressing for the anointed applicant. Today I went to apply it said closed--on 8/17.
In my lengthy experience of job applications this is a first. Any thoughts?

Not to rain on your parade, but that is a 0905 attorney senior executive position. And yes, it will probably go to an internal candidate.

Some day we'll get an honest announcement, maybe like this:
"[Agency] is only posting this announcement to cover for hiring/promoting an unqualified person for the position who is an insider/relative-of-the-hiring-official-(but different surname)/political/incompetent-litigant-who-has-to-be-given-a-job/living-with-the-hiring-official-and-threatening-to-break-up. We expect every applicant to file reams of resumes, supporting documents, references and recommendations, writing samples, but will hire the preselected person who will submit nothing but a name and address. The person hired is expected to have 30 years of experience in a related field, but six months in our agency with a proven knack for planning the annual Christmas party will suffice. We will hire the preselected applicant in a week, but will keep you hanging for eight months."
