Not to rain on your parade, but that is a 0905 attorney senior executive position. And yes, it will probably go to an internal candidate. Yup BVA never hirers outsiders for the VLJ gig. I have seen CAVC counsel hired as VLJs and the occasional veteran who practiced veterans law, but yeah almost all VLJs are former Board counsel.

Calling all those looking for either a great place to work out of or ready to have that pre-retirement job................ This is a GS 13, but I can see someone stepping down if they'd made their pension, figured a nice job in a great location: www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/595095700Also there's a similar one on USA jobs for Vicenza Italy. Good luck!

Anyone have any intel on Attorney-Advisor positions with SBA Office of Disaster Assistance? Just generally curious about the nature of the work, etc.

Anyone have any intel on Attorney-Advisor positions with SBA Office of Disaster Assistance? Just generally curious about the nature of the work, etc. The temporary positions? My old roommate used to do that before he got a permanent job at SSA. He said the work was relatively easy, stress free, and solitary. It was a job that was often remote even before the pandemic. He liked it for a while, but there was little chance of a permanent offer or a promotion. Let me know if you have any more specific questions and I can reply or ask him.

Sounds like a good gig for a second household income. Pay only goes to GS 11 though.

Thank you both for the response. I have read other reports of the duties and it sounded torturous. I believe it comes with lots of overtime so the pay turns out to be rather decent. Might be something to consider as a seasonal gig for retiree or recent entrant to the work force.

Might be something to consider as a seasonal gig for retiree or recent entrant to the work force. A lot will depend on how it is structured. The last time the floated this you had to commit to 7 days a week 10 plus hours a day! The pay was low but you got overtime, but that is a killer schedule. For a part time job they also expected you would have no other work. That just doesn't make sense. So if offered, be sure to ask the details.
Speaking of details, I've recently seen openings that said in the heading "DETAIL." now this seems to mean in some references that it's only for 80-120 days renewable--but in the body of the announcements I couldn't find the period of the appointment. Anyone have any information on that?

Thank you, Foghorn. You always have the scoop. I have not seen DETAIL positions. These are open to all or only current feds? Can you send a link?

ALJ position with GAO requires experience in Federal Personnel law. This might be rather general, but it has "sieve" questions that ask about experience in that , not '' .....or equivalent experience in a related field." So while it doesn't say it's a requirement, chances are unless you have internal contacts, you won't even get referred if you can't say you are viewed as expert in the field of personnel law. But hey, it's ALJ.....so, go for it if you've got it! www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/601248100

I spent the last 6-weeks of my USAF career at Mildenhall - which is nearly adjacent to Lakenheath. This is a great place to be! Easy country living, and just a short drive gets one to the rail/tube station with full access to London. Great for weekends in the city. The MWR also sponsors all sorts of activities and trips to the rest of Europe. And you'll be working with some of America's finest folks! If only I was younger.........

I had posted this in another thread but this seems to be the best place so I will repost here: 3 ALJ I Positions with the California Dept of Social Services, IHSS (Where I work): www.calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jobs/JobPosting.aspx?JobControlId=2611301 ALJ I Position with the CDSS, (San Diego Regional Office): www.calcareers.ca.gov/CalHrPublic/Jobs/JobPosting.aspx?JobControlId=261086Four positions total, I believe the application deadline is August 5. Pay range for ALJ I is $9,732.00 - $12,241.00, with 5% pay bump after training plus annual 5% increases until you get to the top. I'm pretty sure everyone starts at the bottom of the scale, I don't think it's negotiable. Automatic bump to ALJ II after 12 months, which is a bit more. I think the pay ranges shown in the job announcement are incorrect as they don't yet reflect an increase in the scale that just went into effect.
