Did anyone else receive an automated USAJobs search engine result in their in-box on Saturday, May 3, 2008, regarding an ALJ vacancy announcement?
What is odd is that the "Open Period" is listed is "Friday, May 02, 2008 to Saturday, May 02, 2009." But the substance (body) of the announcement is all but gone as of today, Monday, May 5, 2008.
Please tell me that OPM didn't post a new ALJ vacancy announcement on Friday, May 2, 2008, that closed over the weekend. Can someone definitively speak to this issue?

An one day opening. That'd be a new record. Seriously doubt OPM opened up the register for a day and then closed it. Relax and have another cup of tea.

The ALJ announcement Litigator speaks of is still on the USAjobs website. Just type in "adminsitrative law judge" and you will see the announcement. It is rather bizarre that OPM would post a closed announcement with a one day only open period. Try and click on the various tabs and nothing is there to see. Maybe someone from OPM or familar with this incident can shed some light.

It says that the exam is closed - not the announcement. I believe this means that one can indeed apply; just not take the exam. They are probably collecting names, etc., in preparation for...an augmented/new reister (probably the former).
But I am not the expert here...I believe Queen of Personnel (sort of like the movie Queen Of Outer Space- highly recommended) [read J.Hagg] is probably the best one to shed light on this.

I checked the announcement at USAJOBS.com and it is quite bizzare to have an opening period of May 2 - May 2, 2008.
However, the body of the text says:
Examination Closed: Vacancy Announcement Number 2007ALJ – 134575 for the Administrative Law (ALJ) examination, issued on May 4, 2007, is closed to the receipt of applications. (emphasis added)
So it looks like no new vacancy announcement had been issued by OPM and the May 2 - May 2 "opening date" might just be some clerical goof the website people did.

The only thing that has changed since a couple of weeks ago is the dates for the period. I believe that someone is updating it for the next time the job is open for applications, but it is not open yet. I think that USAJOBS emailed people because there was an edit to the "closed" message for this job. Stay calm. If you have the site emailing you daily, then you won't miss the actual opening for new applications when it happens.

Sorry globalpanda, but it has nothing to do with the OSHRC ALJ job. OSHRC doesn't have access to the OPM posting at all and it would be posted by OSHRC, not OPM. My money is on the post that speculates that the announcement is being edited for a reopening. It is that time of the year.

You are reading way too much into what happened. When you go to a job listing on USA jobs, the left column is the closing date. When that date hits the announcement disappears. In order to keep the exam closed "announcement" on the web page OPM needed to change the date because the closing date hit. To do that, in the computer, they probably needed to "post" an new exam closed announcement. That posting probably triggered the automatic e-mail making people rush to see if the new exam opened. They did this for years while the old exam was closed pending the results of the legal action. Every year there was a new posting changing the date.
I am not saying OPM is or is not getting ready to post a new job announcement, I don't know, all I am saying is that this had nothing to do with a new announcement.

I guess to be considered a "sitting ALJ" we'd have to have already showed up at our SSA job, right? Actually, if you are a current ALJ - OSHRC handles very interesting cases and Denver CO is not a bad place to be.
