Except that all Appael Council judges are in Falls Church and ALJs are national.

That should be "Appeal"

And that is how I read it. Funny how we automatically correct minor typos as we read.

Except that all Appael Council judges are in Falls Church and ALJs are national. That is inaccurate. There are AC judges outstationed throughout the country.

There is so much irony in this for anyone from New York-in recent months it has become almost impossible to get to work in New York; I would refer here to anyone interested in some of the problems: nypost.com/2018/08/09/new-york-city-is-entering-a-transit-apocalypse/I fly 14+ hours each week getting back home and overall I still commute less time than I would if I were to get a transfer home.

In regards to updating our USA logins and searches, I wanted to check my saved searches to see what key words and criteria I had used, so I clicked saved searches and renewed my expired search. But there was no way to see what the search actually was or to edit it. According to USA jobs help instructions, there should be an Edit Search Criteria button, but for the life of me I was not able to see the search or any Edit button. Only options were to change notifications and renew the search. Anyone else have this difficulty? I created a new search following the instructions on the SSA ALJ recruitment page, rather than attempt to edit the prior search. As my computer skills are generally adequate, but limited, that seemed to be the most sensible thing for me to do. What's the "SSA ALJ recruitment page?"
Never mind. Just looked above.

No lawyer joke or allusion was intended. Just love Great Whites. Only have access to phone at the moment so have been unable to update picture. I am thinking the shark from Dory might be more tolerable or maybe the SNL “Land Shark.” Have a great weekend all. Ooo-ooo! I vote Land Shark!!! Or some pettifogger in a sharkskin suit! Bonus points for using "pettifogger" in a sentence. I could have used your help in my last HQ Trivia round...

Not "Appeals" as in Appeals Council, said the pettifogger. (responding for requests for use of the latter word)

Too true. Won't do any good to hire more Judges without someone to do the work

For those of you interested in serving as an ALJ in Miami it looks like that office will be searching for at least one good candidate to fill at least one forthcoming vacancy. Miami OHO ALJ Busted

Sounds like another stand-your-ground case to me.

Apparently the Miami Herald has not noticed the 1 October 2017 shift from ODAR to OHO.

From the article in the Miami Herald:
"A judge who reviews federal disability cases in Miami was arrested at his El Portal home Tuesday night after police said he threatened the mother of his child with a gun and a rifle."
Do newspapers no longer use editors?

I want the Miami opening! Because my parents will move closer to where I settle, and it’ll be good for them to know that Shady Pines is just down the road! 😂

Figure it will take 2-3 years for the opening to occur.
If at all. (Presumed innocent and all that).

Does anyone have a sense of whether an ad might come out by 10/1? or, even before if SSA intends to hire in the new FY?

Just read by the ALJ in Miami. Per the article he threatened first with a handgun, then went back inside his home and came out with a long gun. The story also referred to a pending action in court and a request for a restraining order against him.
A couple of years ago another Florida ALJ ran afoul of the law with a domestic abuse problem. His accuser tried to retract her story, to no avail. He was removed and I don't think it took years for the removal. Nor do I recall there being any criminal prosecution in that case. He was terminated for conduct based on the SSA investigation.

Then I went to the USAJOBS website and discovered that "things look different there". Their help pages weren't very helpful in figuring out how to create a useful search for an SSA ALJ. Does anyone have any tips to share? TIA!

So, two years for the ruling by the Board, and three years before upheld by District Court.
