I was on the first "big" cert, but I was not on the second cert. In fact I emailed ODAR to confirm that I was NOT on the second cert and they said I was NOT.
I had given up and hadn't been paying any attention to the board. Then I get this Email about of the blue today.

Notafed, do you mind if we ask what locations?
I'm curious as to whether you were referred for sites that are on the current cert.

A friend of mine received the same e-mail today. It is a follow-up cert apparently or a new one. This individual was not on the "current cert" but the locations he was canvassed for this afternoon ARE all on the current cert. His start date would be the same as the start date for the Baltimore training aspect of the current cert - 8/4. It looks like he would skip the in-office training in July and go straight to Baltimore. Anyone think they are expanding the goup so they will be able to dig deeper to get the candidates they want? My only other thought is that they may be hiring more ALJs for this 8/4 class. The silence becomes louder for some of us who wait.

The locations I was told about are in NYS - Jericho and the Bronx.

and if SSA expanded the current cert, there is a chance they will have to interview someone meaning that we could all be waiting a few more weeks for offers. I agree. In fact, even if it is an additional cert, I think no one is going to hear before July. Is this getting a little tiresome to anyone? As strange as it seems, it would appear that SSA did not find enough people they liked off the present cert to fill all the positions.

This comes as a shock to me, so I have no clue.
I'd like to think that they selected sitting ALJs for the NHCs, thus creating new vacancies, and a new (preferably separate) certificate has been issued. I really can't stand the thought of waiting until July to hear something. Life simply must go on.
I'll ask around tomorrow and see if I can gain any insight, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

A couple of folks called personnel on Friday and were told that offers would go out early next week. Surely the people that gave that information over the telephone knew that other names had been requested from OPM. A cert doesn't come out in a day, does it? I would think that somehow some cities on this cert didn't get filled and this new cert is a limited cert. Just a guess, though.

My score was 59. The locations listed were Charleston WV; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; and Dallas Downtown.

I understand they are working on hiring a total of 189 new aljs for this year. Can't say where I heard it. Not trying to be clever, just don't want to burn a source. This is the biggest number I have seen yet. When you consider the early outs being offered, normal attrition, and the need to get to 1175, I think SSA is going to have to be much more aggressive to meet their goals. Consider also that they only got 133 off of the first hire after looking at 430 off of the cert. It is hard to see how they will get there unless they pickup the pace.

Forget what I typed here earlier. I misread the dates in the first post.

Anybody else get such a letter today? The substance of Notafed's post suggests that SSA does not have to interview, or conduct a reference check on, any candidates on the "dual certificate." Maybe we all will have to wait until "early July." By the way, can anyone post the entire letter instead of paraphrases of the letter?

There is a reasonable basis for concluding new vacancies are becoming available, since sitting ALJs have been offered an early out retirement option for the first time in many years

So, is it the consensus that the rules have changed for all of us? And nobody hears until early July? And nobody starts before training in August? Corrina, Corrina?

Hot off the press. Just talked to Susan Martinelli. This IS an "expansion" of the existing (second) certificate, not a "new" certificate. Those of us already waiting will indeed have to wait "a little bit" longer. Susan was very sweet and understanding of all the questions.

It is my understanding that the Bronx had judges on the transfer list. It is likely a judge in Jericho is retiring/has retired. It is more cost effective for SSA to get a 1-2 office cert and put selectees in the same class as the selectees from the 2d cert rather than wait for an as yet unscheduled class. I think the 8/4/08 class will start on time. These things take on a life of their own and are difficult to kill once they are set in motion.
In my estimation, SSA had to wait longer than it originally intended for transfer list acceptances/rejections because of hearing trips, etc. That would explain the delay in the transmittal of offers and the additional mini-certs.
Given the above, it seems likely that tomorrow is the very earliest that offers could be made; it is more likely that it will be Thursday.

Well, the news certainly isn't happy-making....no insult intended "Happy!" I guess I share the view that a "little while longer" could be more than a day or two. Does the use of the term certificate "expansion" suggest to others that SSA is simply looking for new personnel for the same positions, rather than that more positions are involved? I think that's the way I'm reading it.....

I would read expansion as meaning more places.

Notafed said that the expanded cert requested they return the geo pref. by June 20. If SSA is going to wait and send all notices out at once, then no one is going to hear anything this week. I give up on trying to guess at this point.

I'm certainly fonder of your interpretation, but I'm very personally aware that the two NC locations and Jericho already are on the list. So maybe there are more positions at each location?
