I just got an email today. With only one location, Pittsburgh, reply by the 20th. Was on the first, not on the second. THis is weird.

I'm trying to follow your reasoning Patriotsfan. Pittsburgh already is on the second cert. How does Mama's email support your conclusion?

I believe that all of the cities I have seen listed so far for the expanded cert are all on the current cert.

I second Patriotsfan's previous request: Is there a way we can cobble together a complete list of cities on this "supplemental" or "expanded" or "dual" or "third" Certificate (or whatever it is)? Someone who listed availability for every location in the initial application and who received the current letter might be the best source of information. . .

Mama's post confirms the suspicion that this for ADDITIONAL positions! In fact, I would guess that no one who gets the email for the new cert will have been on the existing cert unless a new geographic area opens on the new cert that was not on the existing cert. I think PF hit it on the head. Supposedly there are at least 3 loc's so far:pittsburgh, bronx and jericho. I also looks like no one will be going through the mentor training this time, if the posts from statealj and notafed are any indication.

OK -- I can't contain my pessimistic self -- if this is about recent transfers, dislocations, etc. -- why doesn't it involve additional geographic locations?

Or maybe new geographic locations would have required a new cert and more time? Yo no se......

After much anxiety and my lack of patience, I am glad I found this forum today! My "re-cert" letter listed locations in regions 4 and 6 (Atlanta, New Orleans, Dallas, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Jackson, MS). My score was a 63. With fingers crossed, I hope to hear something soon. Good luck, all!

Good luck, all! Welcome, Outtadodge! Were you on the initial Certificate from in 2007? (Meaning, have you interviewed with SSA already and been subjected to the "reference check"?). When you completed the application in May 2007, did you limit your geographic preferences?

Boley and ALJhunter,
I applied in May 07. I received my first notification that I made the cert in either December 08 or Jan 08 (I took the written exam and interviewed last summer). I was told last Feb. that all of the positions were filled before they got to my name on the cert (email notification came in March). This past April I got the email saying my name had been certified to SSA and selections would be made in early June. Still waiting to hear.
So, Boley you are right!

Outtadodge: Just so all of us understand: You did not get the e-mail that Notafed got on June 16 (look at the first post under this topic) which has generated all this excitement? In other words, you are in the same situation that most of us are in waiting to hear about positions from the April Certificate? Thanks for your clarifications!

Aljhunter,
I did do the background check the first time. The background check folks contacted me again after the April notification for follow-up information. Initially, I listed about 12 geographic locations, which included Shreveport (LA), Houston (TX), Metairie (LA), Mobile (AL), and a few other locations. The desired locations remaining are Atlanta, Dallas, Raleigh, Charlotte, New Orleans, and Jackson, MS.

Right! I did not get the June notification. I am still waiting for the April round to wrap-up. Sorry for the confusion. I just found this website today!

My spouse (with a much higher score than me) was picked for this cert for Jericho and the Bronx but declined to be considered. I would imagine that they had to add someone new to the cert. to follow the rule of 3. Unfortunately they did not put me in as a sub.

I also received the 6/16 SSA letter. I am an "all locations" person and there were 43 cities listed in my GAL letter. How many were in the April cert?

So just to try to sum this up. There is another certification letter sent to some of us with additional locations that may or may not duplicate the April locations, but have a later reporting date in August than the July 21, 2008 date we were given for the April cert. And this may mean more judges for some locations and the expansion was due to the rule of threes. I was on the April listing for most of the locations mentioned so I am sure they are just trying not to pick me Where is Pixie when we need her/him? Them? [EDIT] I do have one other thought. The Fiscal year ends in September, so they may have more freedom to hire more folks in August because the salary would not be carried for more than a month or two in the current fiscal year and new hire money may not be there for fy 2009. Just an idea.

I think this goes back to the theory that OPM goes down the register one by one and culls out each individual that has at least one site on the cert until they have 3X as many candidates as slots. I really don't think OPM does the "Rule of Three" part -- they leave that up to the Agency. Provided, of course, that this mechanism provides at least three names for every slot in a particular location.

If anyone listed all locations and received the most recent email, it would be very interesting to see it (if you could copy and paste, hint-hint) so that we could compare locations with the earlier, still pending cert. It seems to me to be good news that they are apparently hiring more people, thus giving more people a shot at the position. Good luck everyone!
