I think there are at least 47 Board participants who interviewed, and estimates are that we are, what, like 1/3 of the overall pool? Probably something like 150 or so folks that got interviewed? Only 25 spots up for hiring this FY (or that's the common understanding). This has been discussed elsewhere, I think, but I am just asking to refresh my memory and try and tailor my expectations. Reminds me of applying for colleges... This sounds about right. I’m guessing 16–20% chance for each of us. Even though I know a lot of us will be disappointed (including most likely me) whenever the calls start coming, it’s hard not to think of the possibilities if we actually get the call. And to get back to the title of thread- if they call me, it will be a quick yes (after I come to after passing out from shock).

I have a wide-open GAL because the USAJOBS announcement said it would be used for future hires and who knows when that will be and what will have changed in my personal circumstances in the interim.
I was expecting to be presented with a list of locations for which I was being considered and asked to confirm from that list the locations in which I was still interested.
That did not happen, or at least, not yet.
Without any additional clarification or narrowing from the agency, my only option is to treat the entire list of 153 hearing offices as my “are you still interested” list. It’s a ton of work, to put the thought and research into each location, but it’s the only option if I want to be prepared to answer immediately on the call.
The other option is to wait to do any research until I get the call, if it even comes at all. If it’s my preferred location (or one of those on my mental short-list), no research is needed and I can say yes immediately. If it’s not, I don’t think it’s crazy unreasonable to take the day to research and decide on that one location once there’s actually a decision to be made. After all, according to my ALJ application, I am highly skilled in factual analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making.
On the other hand, research gives me something to do while waiting for call. Next stop, Zillow!

Next stop, Zillow! The removal of OPM for this process (for the time being, anyways) makes me very much doubt that these lists are going to last for years. I expect this one will be this hire and next year. So I’m glad this helped you get an interview! And I hope you get an offer! But, next time round, I think candidates can do a lot of pairing down early (but then, you might not get an interview…which doesn’t feel great either, so I guess you can be your own judge knowing your own flexibility). For those of us with limited flexibility in location, I guess it’s better to be pared from the process early, saves the agency time. But yeah, if you don’t get picked up on this “cert” I think next time you can cull some spots you definitely would NOT move to (i.e. Johnstown). For me, I didn’t want to say I would go somewhere, get the offer, and then turn it down. But who knows if that matters in the end. It’s a brave new world, and we are operating on 3+ year old tea leaves.

I used Zillow soooo much while I was waiting. I would also use street view to look at some offices.
