My husband and I close on our new house on Monday. We financed with Citi Bank one of the preferred SSA lenders. Let me tell you it has been the death of 1000 cuts. My husband and I have purchased 7 houses prior to this experience. Not one of them took as much time energy and ridiculous paperwork to complete. If you are a federal employee and entitled to the relocation package, look hard at Countrywide and Wells Fargo before deciding to go with Citi Bank. Not only can I not recommend them, I actively recommend that you choose someone else. This is free advice, so it is worth what you pay for it. Best of luck to all of the new ALJs!

Countrywide was good to me- I got a great interest rate because the gov't contribution went toward a buy-down (because Countrywide did not charge an origination fee). They processed the case when they said they would. My realtor wasn't too happy, though, because she had to wait to get her check until 4:30pm, even though the closing was before noon.
