I'm not looking forward to learning how to conduct video hrgs from home, not am I sanguine that it will be as wonderful as TPTB claim. I would like the option of conducting video (and telephone) hrgs from the office. I do not see any reasonable objection/impediment
But, as noted above, so long as the paychecks keep coming...

I’m looking forward to video hearings from home.
I’m glad we have a little lead time. Teleworking wardrobe has gotten more sketch with each passing month. I’m going to get my powdered wig ordered to cover the COVID ‘do and find a place online that makes short waist-length robes.

So I'll be doing video hearings, my spouse will be working through Zoom, my kids will be attending school through Zoom...should go great! Hope you have good internet. Although if this video program is all that data intensive the poor little hamster who powers my laptop is going to collapse.

Random thought, unrelated to anything, I wonder why morale is so low at SSA? Maybe, just maybe, could it be because we are the last to know anything about the issues that directly affect our work? Nah, that can't be it. You can't possibly. mean that everyone but the judges who will conduct the video hearings was told that video hearings were in the works? Pisses me off that they told reps without even bothering to tell us.

Pisses me off that they told reps without even bothering to tell us. Very crappy thing to do. And when the word got out the DC sent a memo to ALL OHO employees although it had already consulted with other unions And The Reps organization. Perhaps they should write regulations allowing the reps to tell us which cases to pay and which to deny. DCALJ also sent out an email Right after DC expounding how great the new technology is. Hey great leadership. Thanks for telling us but I get better and more timely gouge from Hall’s SSA Blog. TPTB seem to really believe we, ALJs, undermine the agency mission thanks to that dreaded APA.

ssaogc: Your use of the word “gouge” brought up many unhappy memories! Thankfully, I have not heard that word since I retired after 20 years on active-duty some time back. No more PME for me, thankyouverymuch!
Respectfully, Hamster

No more PME for me, thankyouverymuch! Respectfully, Hamster The term “gouge” is also used in the Navy. Here is one definition: Gouge: The inside scoop, the skinny, the low-down. Only the information one needs to know in a given situation, with nothing else to waste one's time. Some black shoes say "Live by the gouge, die by the gouge." Aviators say "Live by the gouge, excel by the gouge." en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Glossary_of_U.S._Navy_slang

It appears no show dismissals are back.
Presumably unrelated to the end of FY 2020.

But, if your office is like mine, most of those are already back on the schedule.

So, if they have already been noticed, is it really appropriate to now send the show cause? I lean towards no (but if told to do otherwise I will certainly comply).
But, even if we did that- sure that would mean a big batch of dispositions before the end of the FY, but as you pointed out, those cases are currently occupying hearing slots that will then likely remain empty (although, of course, for all purposes other than metrics, those slots are pretty much empty now).

Our office was told that beginning in November (editted- originally wrote March) the ALJs' hearing schedule had to line up with hearing room capacity.
So, it would appear that returning to the office is at least being considered.
November is also what we had heard for when we would be able to start doing video hearings. So, maybe those video hearings won't be from home after all.

TPTB may not say it publicly, but like many businesses with the ability to work remotely, I do not foresee being back in the office in any real capacity until 1) vaccine is available, and 2) it is widely available to the public at large. Best case scenario for that looks to be mid-2021 at this point.
