I'm thinking of applying (knowing probably a waste of time).
I'm curious about a couple of things-
One, is it considered acceptable to be going onto the USA jobs website from one's work computer? If so, I assume it has to be done outside of duty hours?
Two- any writing samples I provide of decisions at SSA are going to be mostly worthless. Moreover, if I can't apply from my work computer then I am putting myself in jeopardy if I try to move them to a personal computer. I have a 15 year history as an attorney where I did actual writing- do I just submit one of those?
Three- proof of licensure- that office is closed in New York and it will take way more than the two week window that this position was opened for me to get. I can include a page from the state bar website that say I'm licensed, but that's nothing official? Thoughts?

I can include a page from the state bar website that say I'm licensed, but that's nothing official? Thoughts? I haven't read the posting, so grain of salt and all that, but I can tell you that other agencies have accepted a screenshot of the bar webpage showing your bar status. You can sanitize an SSA decision amd email it to yourself. No problem with that. My .02 on SSA decisions as samples: use a Listing case, a step 1 denial, or something else that is more technical. Something that is easy to follow and shows clear application of facts to law. Most step 4 or 5 decisions are not great because the rfc discussion is generally less clear in terms of applying facts to law. I would never access USAJOBs from my work cpu, but I am pretty sure almost everyone else does. I just like to keep my personal and business activities separate, and if you are applying from a work cpu, your bosses have every right to look at that. Obviously all applying has to be done off duty time.

thanks for your thoughts, pretty much did as you suggested. I dont think I have a prayer, so I didn't want to knock myself out.
Only glitch was when I forwarded my own sf-50 to my home email address, which the email immediately notified contained PII- my own.
I expect the knock on the door any minute for that.

Many before you have done that too.

Applied...but no pilot license or experience... however I did build the lego-almost-8000-piece millennium falcon during this pandemic... which is just as challenging as flying an aircraft, right?

Harder. In the air, no child is stealing your instruments or leaving parts on the floor to trip over. Ever step on a Lego barefoot? Almost as bad as a paper cut. Good luck!

My husband applied and wasn’t referred. I guess watching the movie Airplane 50 times isn’t enough. What is the standard for being referred? I assumed it just meant OPM found the application to be complete and the candidate to meet the minimum standards.

So does anyone know someone that got referred or interviewed? I assume it is a highly selective process since their are only 4 nationwide and that they are looking for certain qualification particular to the job.

Standard is "best qualified" to be referred. That happened 10/21/2020. No word since then.

Still, nice to hear your definition is "best qualified". Beats my definition, which was "minimally qualified and got his paperwork in on time"

I am taking a wild guess here but I assume ALJs that are prior JAG + have a pilot's license/aviation law experience is rare breed. I wonder if NTSB will wait to see what happens after the transition of the executive branch or if Dec 11 fed funding gets extended before interviewing anyone. Like most of the government, it is a "wait and see" game....

Not a peep since referral. Hurry up and wait is the name of the game.

At least it sounds like some folks from this forum got referred....that speaks highly of you given the qualifications required.

Anyone heard anything....really curious about what it takes to get these other ALJ positions..... I've heard nothing. Just checked the NTSB site and it still shows the same 4 ALJs as currently working.
