"Later this month, in order to increase our capacity to serve claimants via OVH, we will begin scheduling OVH hearings for non-management ALJs as well."
"We will continue to offer claimants telephone hearings in addition to OVH for the foreseeable future . . . ."

No mention of training, so it would appear that for most the first time they will use the technology will be during hearings.

"Of course, all ALJs will receive necessary training before conducting any OVH hearings. Once you see the technology and the ease of interaction it allows with claimants and representatives, I believe you will be just as excited as I am about this innovative opportunity to serve the public while continuing to keep one another safe."

Ok, reacted too quickly. Rather than delete my original post I will leave it as an object lesson.
Having said that, clearly the training will be brief. I hope the video hearings will be rolled out slowly, because I still can't get through a day of phone hearings without problems.

How about this?
We first get the current technology to work consistently before we add more?
Just a random Monday afternoon thought

I see this as good news, in that TPTB aren’t going to rush us back into the offices.

I am all for not fully opening offices yet, but if I am required to do video hearings, I wish I could go into the office and use their Internet. I have enough trouble with crappy connections over the phone.

It's a trap. When claimant successfully signs on, it's an automatic Step 5 UNF.

I agree entirely.
And I wish they would tone down the over-the-top enthusiasm. "Results have been fantastic... Claimants and representatives have appeared from locations of their choosing via smartphones, tablets, and laptops. ... Once you see the technology and the ease of interaction it allows with claimants and representatives, I am sure you will be just as excited as I am about this innovative opportunity... "
Surely I am not the only ALJ who has requested that claimants and reps NOT use speakerphone during telephone hearings. Now we are REQUIRING that they ALL use speakerphone? Yeah - that sounds "fantastic"!
Show of hands - how many ALJs think looking up a claimant's nose as they call in from their car will greatly enhance things?
Maybe tone down the ridiculous cheerleading and just say, "We are doing the best we can. We think this will be workable, but expect it to be a work in progress for some time. Thank you all for your efforts."

I'm not worried about noses. My PCP said he was asked to look at hemorrhoids on a telemedicine call.

I'm not worried about noses. My PCP said he was asked to look at hemorrhoids on a telemedicine call. I had a claimant who brought in a ziploc of excrement once. He wanted to submit tangible proof that he had chronic diarrhea. I declined to admit the exhibit. Respectfully, Hamster

There were some typos in the email, too. Irregardless of the technology issues, video’s are the waive of the future.

I am no longer retiring. Buying an RV, gonna get satellite WiFi and will do these hearings from an undisclosed location(s)!
