The Continental Army was formed June 14, 1775, became the United States Army under the Articles of Confederation, and, through the enactment of the US Constitution, became the Army of the United States.
The Second Continental Congress adopted the flag on June 14, 1777.

So true about the Chair/Air Force. Those little runaways just didn't appreciate who good it was as the US Army Air Forces. GO ARMY!
