Closes today. And requires 15 years as a licensed attorney, unusual from the 7-10 we usually see.

I know they are a small corps of ALJs, but my limited experience when applying with them was very positive. They seem to be a tight knit group with relatively high morale. Those of you out there seeking an opportunity (either as an appointment or a different challenge if you are already an ALJ with another agency) should keep an open mind if you have the requisite experience.
Having said that, even during the old OPM register process, they tended to hire "known" entities (i.e. their people), although I did meet a couple of ALJs they poached from SSA.

Anyone know if it is still a one telework day a week type of situation? I’ve heard it’s unlikely they will go back to the pre-covid one day per week telework policy. That said, I was also told that they haven’t made a decision on what telework will look like after.

Correct no decision on post pandemic world. DOL - like most federal agencies- is in a maximum telework posture due to Covid. There will be an expectation that you report to the office assigned post Covid. How many days is the question. They also do not have any formal transfer policy.

As far as the transfer policy, I have heard that, while not impossible, they tend to hire you for a place and expect you to have your career at that place. Reason being the offices have different focuses - some are black lung while others focus on dockworkers.

Covington, LA ALJs focus on the Longshore Act. A SS ALJ friend accepted a position there and found the work transition to be fairly smooth.

Received this yesterday from a board member:
"Good evening,
I don't want to post this myself in order to maintain my anonymity, but i received an email today asking me to schedule an interview for the DOL ALJ hiring. Please feel free to let the board know that these initial interviews were still being scheduled today.
Thanks!"
