Yes, today in 1790 the U.S. Coast Guard had its beginnings as President George Washington signed a measure authorizing a group of revenue cutters to enforce tariff and trade laws and prevent smuggling. Perhaps it is doing the same thing today, but the other services have no idea what the role of the CG is. We just know it has some cute little cutters and some nice S&R helicopters. Pixie

Yes, "Nice S&R helicopters." Try doing rescue work at night, in weather and while getting shot at. That makes a helicopter—and its crew—awesome. The CG does all of that except getting shot at. So, I would say that makes them almost "awesome." Close enough to awesome in my book. Pixie
