It has come and gone, and was much stronger than I ever thought it would have been this far from the Gulf. Time for us to clean up and let New Brunswick deal with the remnants.
Also time to get back to the business of posting.
Is everyone OK? Pixie

I spent about 30 years in Florida and have seen and lived through my fair share of Hurricanes. This storm is the FIRST where I had to find out from friends in the North East how they were doing. I had NEVER seen that level of flooding in NYC and Philly.
So for all of you in the North East that were affected, I hope you are all ok and your loved ones are ok.

I'm in the DMV. Grew up in the area, too, and my old high school near Annapolis got hit by a tornado. No one injured, but the stadium and auditorium entrance had some significant structural damage. Luckily, buildings can be repaired.

Basement flooded. Only a foot deep, but with enough of a current to knock things over.
Had to cancel my holiday weekend plans, spent yesterday unloading everything out into the backyard and mopping. The fans are doing the work now, but at some point have to bring back those things that aren't going into the dumpster, and going to have to rip up the flooring and the bottom of the walls.
Worst for me is I may have lost my hot water heater that I had just installed on Monday.
Could be a lot worse, though. I saw a lot of people near by who lost their cars- I suspect an already tight used car market just got worse. Some local businesses aren't reopening any time soon.
And of course the worst stories I saw on the news.
I feel like it was the element of surprise was what made this so bad. Usually it seems like the media overhyped every little storm, not sure how this one got past everyone.
Although, no amount of warning would have helped the people who drowned in their basement apartments.

Sadly, more people died in the north and the northeast than died in Lousiana, hit directly by the hurricane. I think it was something like 26 killed here, and 11 in Louisiana.
