I was under the impression that when the new ALJ announcement opened, individuals that were already on the OPM ALJ register would have the opportunity to try and increase their scores. Is this wrong? I'm a little shocked that we are not allowed to reapply for the new announcement ( it makes sense but that is kind of why I am surprised). Does anyone remember when exactly we received our scores? Was it after the structured interview and the writing demonstration? Will we be allowed to redo these items? Is there any way to find out how my score was distributed among the three parts (Application, SI, WD)?
I am just so full of questions!

The only people currently on the register who can reapply, which may or may not increase one's score, are ten-point disabled veterans.

The announcement says in its "Who May Be Considered" heading: "applicants on the current ALJ register who received a Notice of Results dated 10/30/07 with a final numerical rating are not eligible to apply to this vacancy announcement."

My friend lawguardian, unfortunately, you can't reapply , except if you're a vet as semipa said. So you're stuck with your score. You can change geographic availability though - now, I am not really sure that will help any. Maybe they will reopen the announcement again sometimes next year and by that time you/we will be on it for over a year and at that point they will allow you/us to reapply. But - who says you/we would score any better? Maybe even worse?!

Even given a future posting of the job (say in 2009) where everyone left on the register from the fall of 2007 could reapply, there is no guarantee that a score will go up!
We all like to think that given a 2nd shot that our score would increase dramatically. However, unless someone knows that they forgot essential experience, did a bad job writing the ARs or did terribly during WD or SI, the odds are that the score will stay about the same. There is also the horrible possibility that a person could lower their score on the 2nd try by goofing up the WD or SI. The applicant does not get the option of keeping their 1st score if they choose to go through the process a 2nd time, so it is a calculated risk for anyone who already made the register.
I know that it is hard to see other people getting selected while waiting, but I think that it is easier to wait when the mind set is marathon rather than sprint.
I would echo the advice to go for maximum availability immediately for anyone who is waiting on the register, if possible. Honestly how bad can some of these places be for several years of penance if they have low cost of living and a nearby airport when an ALJ will be making 6 figures while waiting to move?

I know that I definitely messed up my ARs. I was in such a hurry to send it in in May of 2007, that I didn't proofread them very well. Not blaming anyone but myself. I was embarassed when I re-read the ARs later that week. So, yes, I think my score will go up given that my 10/31/07 score is based on gobbledy gook. Of course, now I am competing with folks who've had more than a year to write well written ARs. Oh, well, I can't do anything about it now, except to wish everyone well!! A25
