The 7 year has generally been a hard cut-off for the application (as of application date). But read the information and get your ducks in a row for future speed-applications?

I'm no expert, but I've been through this ever-changing process. First question - choose your spot (but don't hold your breath). On the multi-city selection - you can choose and decline later (e.g. you can subtract but cannot add). It's more complicated than that, but you cannot add on to those multi-city locations later...except for one time). Crystal clear, no?

I found the following from the announcement quite interesting: 15) evaluate the credibility of witnesses, and resolve conflicts in lay and expert evidence; Since when have we gone back to evaluating credibility and not consistency with the record as a whole? I thought "credibility" was a bad word? Someone in HR wrote it, they might not follow changes in the law and just adapted an old vacancy announcement.

Was I the only one worried that the posting for the Social Security ALJ Position would somehow close (1000 application cap.) while trying to answer the questions and find emails/phone numbers for NINE references? Good Luck everyone! No. I found out late in day. Checked for it again later and it disappeared...hoping they didn't close it on day 1 already.

Poof...its gone already? Long day at SSA. Look at post after late dinner, then go to apply and can't find it again by keyword, job title, agency....nada.

USAjobs sent an email to applicants shortly after midnight stating the job is now closed. It did close after just one day.

All the best organizations base their hiring on who is fastest to apply.

Glad to have wasted 3 hours last night working on this (with plans to finish this evening), only to find out that it closed in less than 24 hours. Apparently all of the attorney-advisors already working in SSA spent their workday doing their application, while being paid by the agency to do that - ugh! Can't win for trying

Can't win for trying I get the frustration (yesterday was the worst possible timing for me and I simply didn't have the time to apply). However, I can state that agency employees were directly instructed they could not work on their applications during duty time. However, they could take leave go apply if they wished to.

That may be the case, but they certainly had inside information about when the application would open and what sort of information was necessary to complete. Who can possibly secure a transcript of their undergraduate and law degree that quickly?

I’m no insider, but my university - I went to the same one for undergrad and law school - has an online request system and I received mine in 15 minutes. I’m sure my school isn’t the only one who provides that level of service. That may be the case, but they certainly had inside information about when the application would open and what sort of information was necessary to complete. Who can possibly secure a transcript of their undergraduate and law degree that quickly?

Who can possibly secure a transcript of their undergraduate and law degree that quickly? I cant say that absolutely no one may have received a tip off, but even members of management didn't know when the listing would go live until it did. No tip off of details regarding exact requirements needed to apply either. As far as copies of transcripts, I have had copies of both scanned into USAJobs for years due to prior applications needing them. Again, I get the frustration of the short window and being unable to apply after waiting for years. I would just ask that we refrain from starting rumors of insiders having been given a cheat sheet either.

Although we had a heads up it was coming last weeek, some of us were busy working and got shut out just like you...even after paying our own way through the testing process in 2016 and scoring well but being executive ordered out of making certification with good scores. Unfortunately, I forgot to check here for info after several years of crickets on this particular job front.or I would've taken day off for a chance as a previously well qualified candidate ir I'd have taken leave and applied instead of spending all day at my job of 17 years preparing the existing ALJs for hearings next week drafting detailed prehearing reviews as an SAA who formerly drafted and signed decisions myself earlier in my career.

I feel like I just took the bar exam again. Many on this forum have taken and passed that exam only to be executive ordered out of their passing score and other numerous years and attempts.

Incredibly disappointed and very surprised. I finished most of it yesterday, and was able to do so because, having applied at least twice before, I had a lot of what they were asking for ready to go, including transcripts and copy of bar card, and got it all uploaded. All I was going to do was update my references, so I closed it down and was going to start up again early this morning. Much to my horror, I got the dreaded email in the middle of the night (eastern time)that it had closed. Best of luck to those that made it in time. This was my last shot, so I guess I’ll just retire next year. Darn.

well I got my app in after 11 pm, chances are slim but but here's hoping... do you think they already hit the 1000 mark and will disregard anyone after the 1000th app, which is why they changed the deadline, or consider everyone before midnight even if they get 1200? also what determines whether they contact references? only if you're a finalist? This was my earlier question and why I did not spend as much time as I would have liked on the application, in hopes that I would be under 1,000. The vacancy announcement says “This vacancy is limited to the first 1,000 applications received…” I’ll actually be pissed if they review applications after 1,000 but up to 11:59pm because I curtailed my responses in my terror that I wouldn’t make the cutoff I was after 1000, but my application shows as received and I’m not worried it won’t be considered. I think the posting was pretty clear about this. It said limited to 1000 but will remain open until 11:59 p.m. ET the day they reach 1000 — which means they’ll take submissions through 11:59 p.m. that day.

Most the legends of this forum or anyone seeking federal employment & have applied for this or other jobs on USAJobs had required documents uploaded for years in advance of applying for jobs...but now you know.
