It is my understanding from an email earlier today that hiring will be in this physical year. Offers by September? Looks like they are going to move fast on this one. I assume OPM is totally out of the picture and there will be no performance examination in Falls Church this time around. Any projections on hiring class size?

The closing date on the announcement has been updated to April 27, so presumably the 1000 application mark has been hit.

Good luck to all that applied. I thought about it but came to the conclusion while I don’t like where I am located, I like my current job for the most part. Out of curiosity and for future reference, does everyone start at entry level or is credit given for other federal adjudicatory experience?

Last time they actually contacted everyone on my list. I had 7.

One year telework rule for SSA but I would assume that will not be enforced due to the pandemic.

what determines whether they contact references? only if you're a finalist?

well I got my app in after 11 pm, chances are slim but but here's hoping... do you think they already hit the 1000 mark and will disregard anyone after the change, or consider everyone before midnight? also what determines whether they contact references? only if you're a finalist? Well, I got my application in after 11pm too. It changed while I was working on it and I saw it only after finalizing the application. I received an email that says "This message confirms that you have submitted an application for the vacancy announcement shown below." However, if you look at www.usajobs.gov//Help/how-to/job-announcement/closing-types/#applicant-cut-off, it says, That example suggests that people can continue to submit after the cutoff until midnight, but I don't think that obligates the agency to consider those applications. I'm guessing my application is going to get tossed. What a shame.

I spent a few hours trying to find my competency write-ups from 2016, apparently that laptop doesn't work anymore and I shouldn't have thrown all the materials from my last journey to the register. Glad I didn't wait and just settled in to write it all fresh. Biggest difference is I'm an ex-DW now. Good luck all!

I submitted my application with 3 minutes to spare. Here goes nothing (again)!
Good luck to all!

This was my earlier question and why I did not spend as much time as I would have liked on the application, in hopes that I would be under 1,000. The vacancy announcement says “This vacancy is limited to the first 1,000 applications received…” I’ll actually be pissed if they review applications after 1,000 but up to 11:59pm because I curtailed my responses in my terror that I wouldn’t make the cutoff

I just happened to check this site less than an hour before closing and spent the rest of the time cutting and pasting like a fool. I have zero confidence that I followed the fine print directions.

I just joined this board after being a long time occasional lurker. I am a former SSA employee who was an attorney advisor then group supervisor. I am currently at the Department of Education Office for Civil Rights. My former HOD sent me a text this evening letting me know about the job opening. After getting kids down to bed, I started on my application. When I went to go back to USAJobs about 20 minutes ago after finishing my essays, I was surprised to see the listing is already closed. Maybe next time. At least I'm a GS 13 without the stress of being a supervisor and have a much more varied caseload than I did at SSA.

Hats off to everyone who was able to contact references AND get a copy of their transcripts before the cutoff. Talk about throwing in some curveballs!

I could be completely wrong, but I think they are accepting any applications submitted before midnight ET.
The posting says: "This job will close when we have received 1000 applications which may be sooner than the closing date."
But the explanatory text says:
"Applicant cut-off Some job announcements close when the hiring agency receives a certain number of applications. If the ‘cut-off’ number is reached during the day, the job announcement will usually close that night at midnight.
For example, a job announcement may say it will close after the hiring agency receives 200 applications. If they receive 200 applications by 1:30 p.m. ET, the job will close that same day at 11:59 p.m. ET."
It uses "close" throughout, and says that after the number is reached, it "closes" at midnight that day.
I don't know how you put that text out there, allow people to submit applications until midnight, and then not consider them.

There was at least one state court judge and one state ALJ in my hiring class. So I don't see why they wouldn't. Folks in the immortal words of the poet Marshall Mathers, III Look If you had One shot Or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted In one moment Would you capture it Or just let it slip? I took headphones with me to Falls Church for the specific purpose of listening to that song before I entered the Puzzle Palace. I can’t remember where I did my power poses… Good luck everyone! To those questioning whether to apply, like the Great One said: “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” When you got hired you mentioned this. So when I got called up to the Puzzle Palace I stood in the courtyard and listened to it as well.

I don't know how you put that text out there, allow people to submit applications until midnight, and then not consider them. I read that as saying that the application system closes the announcement at midnight, but the agency is still only taking the first 1000 applications. Imagine if they had a cut off of 50, it was reached at 9am, and another 2000 came in by midnight. It is unrealistic to think the agency would be on the hook to review those additional 2000 applications. I’m annoyed by it, but I guess I should have taken the day off to do my application.
