Hoping for a new fridge to arrive tomorrow- and my family laughs it’s way through chaos. So we enjoyed ourselves. Many years ago while I was in my first legal job I went to visit my grandfather before thanksgiving (an on my own visit without my parents). I was surprised to find his back porch covered in food that should have been in the freezer. I asked him what happened and he said he didn't have enough room in his freezer so he put it on the porch and told me it would be fine. The temperature never got above 30 degrees, and everything stayed frozen. I didn't eat dinner there with him, but he said he'd learned it from his mother. (He mentioned to me on another visit they didn't have electricity until he was well into his teens so I don't doubt his mother did something like that). Every time I hear about a freezer dying during winter I just want to say, put it on the porch, though I have never done it myself. |
