Anyone tried about ChatGPT? Could this be the future of decision writing or decision making?
I mean we already use a primitive form of AI with Insight.
However, I’m more worried about Lucia and it’s spawn of cases than AI at this point. Moreover, TPTB have a track record of spending big $ on really bad software like HCAPs.

I am certain it would do a poor job. I am less certain that it would be put on a performance improvement plan if it made it past the probationary period.

The AI technology to replace decision writers could roll out tomorrow but by the time SSA gets the budget to go forward with it, contracts out the AI software, implements it, and rolls it out across the country, the youngest decision writer currently at OHO will be retired.

I’m in private practice and attending NOSSCR in May and one of the sessions is on technology; lots of attorneys are interested in how AI such as ChatGPT can help reduce time and brief writing costs. However, some attorneys are concerned they will be replaced. My understanding is that there is AI technology (just rolling out) that creates really good medical summaries, significantly decreases file review time, but weak legal analysis.
By the way, I attempted to try it out myself on their website but got the following message: “ChatGPT is at capacity right now” … “ChatGPT is very popular right now.”

Keep trying as I have been using for a few weeks. It is familiar with the regs generally, but is not anywhere near the ability to answer a specific disability related question. In fact, I was messing around with it and tried to get job numbers some of the “usual suspects” at unskilled sedentary. ChatGPT could not provide numbers and responded that the DOT has not been updated in years lol.
The caveat with my experience is that the free version is a year old. In sum, I would describe my experience with ChatGPT as a google search on steroids.

If we get to a place where AI can be used in the process I imagine they would replace both ALJs and DWs. You would have a technician who ensures the data being fed in is good and accurate then the AI makes the determination and writes the decision.

You would have a technician who ensures the data being fed in is good and accurate then the AI makes the determination and writes the decision. You’d either have to get rid of the hearing process or AI will need to get to the point that it could conduct a unique examination. I guess the data technician could do it and input that as well, but analyzing pure data is not going to provide due process under the current system.

We can't ever get usable hearing recordings 95% of the time. Check back in 2050.

They consistently turn out good product and ask questions rather than guessing if there is anything unclear.

My first office had great writers that saved my bacon on multiple occasions. My current office? We put in the bare minimum.
