That is fascinating! About a year ago, I helped a colleague draft a district court brief for a former NFL player who was seeking SSA disability. It is all more interesting after reading the article. I'm impressed by the U.S. District Judge Karen Gren Scholer; she did a great job handling the NFL. And, I'm bit surprised; as a Texan, I admit that football is another religion in Texas. She was unbiased and fair.

Surprised you haven’t lost faith. It’s been almost 20 years since a Texas school has won a national championship.

Back to the NFL, I try to concentrate on college football since I have such little regard to the NFL as an institution for reasons set forth in the WAPOST article and misogyny. I was a lifelong Browns fan before they signed Watson. Yet, I can’t give it up especially after last night’s game.
As to the call, I compare our job to referees despite the lack of an adversarial process. I mean we make tough calls. A defense hold is a defensive hold no matter how close or how much time is in the game. Sometimes I deny cases Id personally like to grant and vice versa. We gotta call them like we see them something the many on the AC don’t seem to understand like substantial evidence.

I didn't think there was a hold, but "holder" James Bradberry of the Eagles said after the game that he did indeed hold, and he had hoped he would get away with it. Now this is a man of high integrity. Few athletes and even fewer judges ever admit error. And kudos to @superalj for recognizing that ALJs have to call 'em as they see 'em even when the sympathies go the other way.

However, I got banished from my family for a while after watching the AF and Navy game in Colorado Springs and complaining about how cold it was! lol I must say, that was probably the most interesting game with the falcon flying overhead and nice fans. I do appreciate athletics for the good life lessons learned on the field and accountability in the classroom. In addition, I moved abroad for a while and learned that American collegiate sports allowed very poor athletes from all over the world (primarily Africa) the only opportunity for an education. I'm a big fan now! Yep - ALJ's and referees make tough calls. I personally like Edward Hochuli; he's a veteran referee and trial attorney.

So far, no one else has moved it to fill the void. Pixie

IHochuli should market his workout routine. That man had some serious “guns.” Besides being a HOF referee, he is an inspiration for senior weight lifters.
