I applied for an attorney advisor position in Region 2 (openings in multiple OHO's- actually almost all OHO's in Region 2). I had an interview with one OHO 3 weeks ago. My 3 references were contacted and all responded the following week. I have not heard anything since then. I am qualified for the position with over 20 years experience as an SSD attorney. Anyone have an idea on the hiring time frame for these positions? I follow another forum (usajobs) and there are posts that there is a federal job hiring freeze at this time. Would this affect direct hire attorney advisor positions? Probably just being inpatient but any information would be appreciated! Thanks! I know a few attorneys who applied to a handful of the Region 4 openings, they told me they've been waiting post interview/writing test reference checks since late May/early June with no response either way as well. Also interesting that we're not seeing anyone claiming to have gotten a TJO on any of the relevant forums after a nationwide AA hiring push the past few months, I wonder if the focus has been completing ALJ hiring in recent weeks or is something else going on?

The freeze pertains to only Legal Assistant hires. DW offers started going out the last few weeks.

A friend of mine has an upcoming interview in Region 4 for attorney adviser, with a 45 minute timed writing sample. I am not familiar with the writing sample requirement. Can anyone shed any light on it? Thanks.

I know for a fact that Region 4 was still interviewing AAs as of yesterday. (7 13 23). They are rushing to get their new ALJs fully onboarded but the background checks aren't fully complete (at least in my case) so that's causing delays. The info I got from my HOD indicates the plan is to have the new ALJs in hearings by October. Presumably they will want AAs/DWs ready to go around the same time. SSA is under orders to get the new hires on the job as fast as possible but the FBI/DHS still needs time to do what they do so it's causing some timing issues.

Another issue affecting Region 4 is that ATL is downsizing offices. The ATL downtown OHO is huge but with the uptick in telework/hybrid work schedules they just don't need the massive space they occupy in a very expensive piece of real estate in downtown ATL. So they are in the process of moving to a nicer but smaller space. And again they have a short window of time to accomplish this. And that is putting a strain on the available time the staff has to work on onboarding new hires.

A newly hired AA in R4 begins work on Monday, 7/17 in one of the NC OHOs. At least one other AA offer has been accepted for the same office.
