Today is the birthday of the United States Marine Corps. It was established on November 10, 1775, to augment naval forces in the Revolutionary War. The recruiting headquarters was set up by Capt. Samuel Nicholas in the Tun Tavern on Water Street in Philadelphia, which is considered to be the birthplace of the Marines.
Happy Birthday, Jarheads. Pixie

My very first and only duty station when I served in the Navy was at Camp, Lejeune, North Carolina. And by the time I was done, I had a boatload of friends, a future wife, and I inherited a retired Marine Corps, Sgt Major.
So to all those jar, heads and all those persons who supported them, happy birthday

Those Marine Sgt. Majors are usually a crusty lot. Once a Marine, always a Marine. Pixie
