Oh, BTW, a musician friend of mine called me this morning. He has a triple major–Mathematics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Programming. His current job is designing computer software, so he does a lot more than music. But he is a fine guitar player, singer and band leader. He credits me for getting him started down that path.
Last year I had a Fender Champ guitar/harp amplifier I wasn't using. I have four more that got more use. He wanted one but didn't want to pay the $1000+ it would cost him to get one like mine–1959 model. He would only use it as a practice amp and for sessions work. So I gave him mine.
He took it home, plugged it in, and it started smoking. Uh oh a blown capacitor. With his background, and a lot of help from YouTube, he rebuilt it. He made some major upgrades, and it is now a hot little amp.
Friends saw what he did with that amp and started bringing him their broken amps. So he got way deep in electronics repair.
So, I asked him if he could repair your shoe phone if it got damaged. He knew exactly what I was talking about even though that show had been popular about the time he was born. He said sure; that's old technology. Have her send it to you, and I will make it like new.
That's the good news. The bad news is that he has convinced me to buy a Les Paul Standard in the tobacco sunburst and learn slide guitar. That was Duane's favorite guitar (tobacco sunburst). He says that with that guitar I will sound just like him in six months. What could go wrong?
But first, I guess I need to find a Coricidin bottle. You musicians will know what I am talking about. Start off slow and work up. Pixie

^^^^^^ Exactly. Yesterday I found out that Coricidin no longer comes in a glass container. I am sure cottage industries have popped up selling replicas of Coricidin bottles, but at exorbitant prices.
In researching Duane's guitars, I found out that the guitar he used for slide on Fillmore East was a cherry red SG and not his tobacco burst Les Paul. Dickie Betts gave it to him to use just for slide so Duane wouldn't have to re tune every time played a song with slide on it. He played slide in open E, so re-tuning was necessary. Pixie

Pixie - due to Skydog being the "Gold Standard" of that sort of slide playing (as opposed to ordinary lap steel, whatever the great David Lindley was doing, pedal steel or what have you), there is a whole range of medicine bottle slides by Dunlop, D'Addario and probably a dozen other suppliers. Heck, even by the time Duane started using the medicine bottle, Coricidin had already moved to a child resistant bottle. The story I saw was that he went to a mom and pop pharmacy and asked the druggist to let him try a bunch of old, empty bottles.
I think you can get something very comparable in the $10 to $20 range. Even a supposed reproduction wouldn't be prohibitively expensive, but I haven't shopped that for a while (e.g. Reverb.)

I'm going to a guitar store today with a guitar playing friend of mine to see what is available in red SGs and Coricidin like bottles. I found one on Amazon that was relatively inexpensive–not $100 like some I have seen.
BTW, BB King was a fan of David Lindley. Pixie

Bad news for David Lindley fans. I just found out he died on March 3, 2023 after a long fight with COVID. He was 78. David had COVID in 2020, which developed into long COVID with chronic kidney damage.
The loss of a real talent. RIP David. Pixie
