Even if they do solicit applications in the nearish future, I bet sitting ALJs at OMHA will make up a bulk of the hires. Assuming all the RIF hubbub is true (and I have no reason to think otherwise). The OMHA RIF is still moving forward. There is no agency placement for those RIF’d in terms of being absorbed at other agencies. But you do potentially have a tranche of 30+ ALJs applying for new ALJ positions.

I heard today that SSA is about to announce a tranche of new hires and working the transfer list I received similar information and I stand corrected. I don't understand the fundamentals of it but it does sound like it is happening.i would bet it is happening very soon. Get your stuff together you're gonna have a very small window.

would the hiring solicitation go out during a continuing resolution?

So, is tomorrow the day?
I'm out of government now and ambivalent about throwing my hat in the ring again, but still interested.

It sure would be nice if those of us who spent thousands of dollars and got great scores that were flushed didn't have to play these reindeer games again.

How does one spend thousands on the ALJ application? Back in the Paleolithic Era before/in 2018, one had to come to DC to take the OPM test, which was a two-day ordeal. It was not comped by OPM, so figure plane tickets and hotels for out-of-towners, plus meals, Ubers, whatevs. It could add up. Especially if you did it more than once. Also, SSA had in-person interviews in 2019, I think, which did not result in a hire, and travel wasn’t comped for that, either (I think they did comp in the old days if you were on the Register and had made a Certificate, but 2019 was after the “old” process was eliminated). I took the last ever OPM test in 2018; we got a “score,” but hiring off the Register was already DOA by that point. The entire process was for naught (not blaming OPM as they had no real way of knowing about Lucia and the EO’s interpretation of it…maybe it would have been best to wait until the Court’s opinion was issued before opening testing, but I digress).

What's the most recent hiring process from 2022 like? More virtual than before?

Do we have any idea on a potential time frame? Are we talking like this week? Or there's time to work on getting stuff together

I doubt anyone with decision making power would care, but I would hope that those affected by the hurricane would at least have power and internet back before the announcement drops. I don't think the posting would be live for more than a day, and it would be cruel for someone otherwise prepared to have to wait years to apply again due to something totally outside their control.

It was open for about 9 hours last time. I wasn't able to even get an application in due to being stuck in an airport. Felt like being punished for daring to take a vacation.
