My agency (non-DOJ) OGC sent around this opportunity notice to component staff attorneys today. The USAO in DC is looking for folks to fulfill short to standard details in the Superior Court division doing misdemeanor prosecutions. For those that don’t know, since DC is a federal enclave and not a state, DOJ is responsible for local criminal prosecutions. I am sharing this, as every now and then, particularly with SSA writers, people ask how they can churn up some litigation experience or otherwise develop a resume. Maybe that doesn’t matter so much anymore, but if you have broad career goals, I think it can’t hurt to still take a look. I thought I would share in case any current Fed, including SSA folks, might be interested. This is only for current Feds, and it’s in the DC area, so be aware of that. The July 15 date is super close, but apparently, it isn’t full yet. And there are dates in the Fall if you can’t drop everything in the next few days. I haven’t done a detail with USAO, but have with another component of my current agency, and it’s a great way to broaden yourself as an attorney. I imagine this detail is fast-paced, but it’s sure to be interesting (dope possession, hookers, petty theft, assaults, etc.). And having worked for DOJ in the past, I can confirm they give great training and mentorship. Anyway, here is the link: www.justice.gov/usao-dc/special-assistant-us-attorney-positions
