EDIT NOTE: As unbelievable as it might sound, some still don't give a reason for wanting to join. This has been the rule for years now. it is displayed prominently in several places, yet some just don't get it. Had to deny an application just now because there was no reason given.

There is a good reason for this requirement. We don't do it arbitrarily.
