It seems that for any city that is mentioned as a desired destination there are a number of incumbent judges requesting transfers to there. Are there any cities that an inordinate number of judges want to transfer out of?

A couple of points. Judges want to transfer for variety of reasons. For most it is a personal issue -- usually wanting to return home.
Some want to get out of a bad office.

Some of the info above is misleading. In Jacksonville 4 judges are listed as wanting transfers. At one time this was an unhappy office. It is a much better place now and the location is very nice. I know all 4 ALJs have declined offered transfers.

Thank you. That is very interesting. I don't know why anyone would be looking to transfer out of Savannah, GA, or Nashville for that matter.

8-)At the expense of raising Pixie's ire, a memo went out to all the regions that any ALJ with 500 dispositions or less needed to be counseled. That should speed up a lot of aged ALJs decisions to retire. What a great agency ODAR is, worker friendly.

8-)My information is, it went to the field offices, and not individual ALJs. I am retired, and was talking to a field judge.

The way the transfer register is set up, a judge must first get her name on the list by indicating a desire to transfer to a particular location. Many judges go ahead and take this step, even though they have no intention of accepting a transfer, should one be offered, in the next several years. They are looking down the road to what their future circumstances might be. You mentioned Nashville, and if my memory serves me correctly, that is one of the cities from which both judges on the list have declined transfer offers.

There is no penalty for declining, and seniority on the list is established by the date one's name first goes on the list. After a declination for a particular city, the judge goes to the end of the list for that city. Pix.
