What are the suggestions for nearby hotels within a reasonable walking distance of OPM?

The State Plaza Hotel is about 1 1/2 blocks away. It is an older suite style hotel. I suggest checking Expedia for hotels in that part of DC by using the OPM address. There are many hotels within a 4-8 block radius of OPM. The big question is what will the rooms be going for on the dates that you need one. The variance between the dates of my 2 trips to DC for WD & SI were outrageous.

Thanks, I'll do that. Good to know there are several options.

I paid the same amount both times at the State Plaza.

I booked a room at the Doubletree Guest Suites, 801 New Hampshire Avenue N.W. Any information on this location? Did I book myself into a dive? Choices are limited for the time I need a room.
Mapquest says it's about 1/2 mile away from the Roosevelt Building. Mapquest says less than 2 minutes if you drive; which I will not be doing. Anyone know if this is an easy hike? As I recall from the last time I was in DC, the blocks are very long. Not like here in Oklahoma City.

Traceb,
Location is almost irrelevant if you are in district or on a subway line. Within the district, a taxi can get you to the OPM building in 10 minutes and the subway is reliable, for the most part.

I stayed in 2007 at a downtown Hilton for the WD as I got a good rate on it. Paid a bit more for the SI but was near the subway line in Crystal City. Taxis are plentiful. For the final ODAR interview there were hotels across the street from the Falls Church office.
Just hope the hotel is a quiet one. Good luck to all. As someone who went as far as one could go without being selected just be patient with the process and roll with it as best you can.

I stayed at the Hotel Washington on 15th St near the Whitehouse. It was about a 15 minute walk from the OPM bldg. It has stores nearby and a food mall around the corner about a block away in the opposite direction from the Whitehouse. I stayed there for the WD in Aug 07, when Congress was in recess, so DC was pretty empty. I couldn't get a room there in Sep 07. I don't recall the name of the second hotel. It was about 10 blks north of the Hotel Washington. If I really stretched, I could almost touch both sides of the room.

Go to WashingtonDC.com. I got a room at the Capitol Hill suites for about $110, incluidng tax. It is only 2.5 stars, but for one night, who cares. It is a few blocks from the test site.

Try Hotwire.com. I got a 4 star hotel in the GW Univ./kennedy center area for $110/ nite pre-tax. I stayed at the Westin at 24th & M. It was about a 25 minute walk to the testing site, but I like to walk to de-stress, and it was a safe area. There is also a metro stop at GW Univ. Hospital.

I stayed at the Lombardy on Pennsylvania for $99, through Travelocity. Only a 4 block walk, that took me past two Starbucks for ample caffeination. Have the same rate for the second trip, too.

I stayed at the State Plaza, and thought it was very nice. Spacious suite, comfortable bed, quiet. I booked through the hotel and paid $99. Someone else booked through Travelocity, and I think she paid $89. Someone else was told at first when she arrived they didn't have a record of her booking , and was quoted $178. They don't have wifi; you're supposed to bring a cable to hook up your laptop.
