Just wondering if anyone has received any info on their appeal of the prior year's final scores?
I have not. A25

I have not received any reply either, and I've asked in writing twice about the status.

I would have to say that it's looking like they are not going to do the appeals.

Samone, I have not heard anything about my appeal. My email inquiries come back saying they are working on them... If they weren't going to work on the appeals, we should have been allowed to reapply before a year is up. Oh, well, such is life.

This has been viewed so many times. Has everyone received the same reply?

A25, I am confused when you say you are appealing last year's scores.. because in another post, a senior member wrote that everyone who does the WD and SI gets "on the register"?? Did you complete the WD and SI, and get a certain score and that was not high enough to place you on the register..can you clarify this or what happened to you that led to the appeal? or point me to a thread where it is answered? Thanks

JCSE, it is confusing....there is the register from which OPM will gather a bunch of names, based on scores, to form a cert to give to SSA ODAR from which to interview folks again. So, I did the WD and SI and got a score (a NOR) on 10/30/07. So with that score I am on the register. Now my score was a couple of points too low to make it to the cert. So, I am on the register to be considered for alj positions and can be there for a long time. I appealed my score (NOR) because a) you can and b) another pair of eyes might see fit to give my another couple of points. As noted by other discussions on the board, you can have a high score, make a cert and still for some reasons not get hired. Now, it is possible this time around that my score MIGHT be enough to make this cert. I am always optimistic, but I am a Cubs fan Also, when the notice to apply for ALJS reopened this time around, those of us who had received a score on 10/30/07 (the NOR) could not reapply. Go figure. Hope this helps! A25

Thanks A25; yes it does help..but I am wondering, do they consider only your WD and SI scores in tallying your "cert" score, or agency-related experience? I would like to think that many years of experience working with an agnecy counts for something??

I'm confused. What's the difference between the register and the cert?

The register is maintained by OPM - and includes all candidates who have received a score from OPM after having gone through the application, the structured interview and the written demonstration. The certificate, on the other hand, is requested by a hiring agency such as SSA. For example, SSA requests a certificate from OPM for 50 ALJ positions for indicated locations; in order to satisfy the Rule of Three, OPM in turns issues a certificate with the top 150 names on the register who have listed the SSA specified locations.

Zero:
Think of the Register as a Master List maintained by OPM. When an Agency is looking to fill some ALJ slots, it contacts OPM and says, "Hey, we're looking to hire X number of ALJs and the locations are A, B, C, D and E." OPM then looks at the Master List and selects the top names of individuals who have listed at least one of the locations identified by the Agency until it reaches 3X (three times the number of slots to be filled). This list of names specific to the locations identified by the Agency is the Certificate. It also means that the person at the very tippy top of the Register (Master List) will not be named on the Certificate if he only indicated availabilty for locations F, G, H and J. Similarly, the very bottom-most person on the Certificate may not get selected even though he/she may have listed all five locations (A, B, C, D, and E) because there may be many people ahead of him/her on the list for each of those locations.

Arlene25- We should have been allowed to reapply. Who knows, maybe they will be done before the register is updated with new scores?

Not a chance, Samone, since it was SSA that requested OPM reopen the Register.

Arlene25- Since the appeals were not done and we were not allowed to reapply, do you think they will reach down further in the scoring this time around?

Well, that would be fair, Samone, so I doubt it will happen But anything's possible.
