Anyone who already took the WD want to tell us how they felt about it ? Shocked ? Dumbfounded ? Or was it about what you expected as far as difficulty etc. Please understand, I am not asking to reveal any specific information about the exam.
Thank You, Mike G.

Yes, please be very cautious in answering this question about WD, so those of us testing later won't be perceived as having any advantage over the early birds. But the question is just about your emotional state, which seems fair.

Spend less time fretting about what it will be like and spend more time composing yourself so that you think clearly during the WD. If the question overwhelms you, then you probably should not be in the room.

I felt the exam was fair, and I agree with ML that if you can't handle the WD you probably shouldn't be an ALJ.

Those who had a performance exam as part of their bar exam were not at all surprised or shocked.

Performance Exam?
I probably know what you are talking about but . . . Will you clarify?
In Oklahoma we have a 2 day bar exam. The first day is the multistate. Multiple choice questions; answer as many as you can. The second day consists of hypothetical written questions to which you must demonstrate knowledge by writing the answers in essay form.

The California Bar is 3 days and has 3 components, the multistate, written essays to show your knowledge of various areas of the law, and the performance exam. The performance exam provides you with all the law and all the facts. You then have to analyze the law and facts and answer questions in an essay format. It is desiged to show your ability at legal analysis and writing.
The WD in format is like a California performance exam.

Thank you. We don't have a performance exam in Oklahoma, or we didn't 10 years ago when I took the bar. They may now for all I know. But thank you for the clarification.

Here's a question I hope they would allow test takers to answer -- can we, should we, bring some lunch, coffee? It seems like a long time to me.....
And, do we get any scratch paper to write an outline? (showing my age, right? - I can't really think without a pencil in my hand).
Thanks.

You can bring food and drink, just make sure it's covered because you have to put it on the floor. Might want to eat before going to the test because time is precious.

You can take food or drink in with you or you can purchase food or drink at the test site, same floor. Bathroom breaks are volitional, but do count toward time for test, but sometimes you need that access. I did take such a break.
I took the entire time allotted and could have used more time, but apparently I did sufficiently well to get the score I needed. No one has learned their scores yet and don't know if we ever will.
During my WD, some people finished early and left. One person left with almost an hour and a half remaining. People looked up and just shook their heads at her early departure.
I forgot and took my cell and BlackBerry in but turned them off before the WD commenced.
Last year people were permitted to take their luggage to the test site and some left after completing everything needed. I scheduled my flight so I could return to hotel and shower and chill a bit before leaving.
As for the Louisiana bar exam, we had 3 days of testing (Mon/Wed/Fri) and each day was 8 hours of essays with no multiple choice questions, so yes I did not find this WD as taxing, though I was 24 when I took the bar exam.

I just want to thank everyone for their input on this question which I posted. Does anyone know if they would allow me to bring in a wrist support for typing ? I am a very fast typist but if I cannot elevate my wrists they start to bother me.
Thanks again,
Mike G.

Now now now my Southern friend, how are things with you? Let's not make fun of those people who got up waaaay early after the WD. Some people simply don't need so much time to write. Was that you laughing behind my back? Good thing we weren't at the same testing! My advice to all is the amount of time you will need to take the WD will vary. If you are accustomed to writing and analyzing quickly, don't worry if you get up quickly (if you've always finished early, you will probably finish early). If you have a tendency to take more time, then you will need all the time they give you. This is not an endurance test. Some of you will be familiar with the subject matter (I was), some of you will not. Some of you will be comfortable writing outside your area, some of you will not be comfortable. Use as much time as you need within the time given to you. You will do well. Remember all those lawyers that you don't understand how they became lawyers? Well, they passed the bar -- and, they could probably do well on the WD.

doctor who- It is good to see you back on the Board. I hope all is well with you. And, for the uninitiated, the doctor really is smarter than the rest of us.

Was that you laughing behind my back? Good thing we weren't at the same testing! And I was wondering whether I took the test the same day as southerner. Although I don't think I left an hour and a half early - but ... Our esteemed colleague, Dr Who, is right. You will need the time that you need - if you tend to be quick in these types of tests, you will be quick. If you tend to work up to the last minute, you will likely do so on the WD. In any event, don't read anything into the time that you finish. Your score will be your score - and if you are taking the test, you will be on the register. In the end, what matters is whether you make it to the test and how wide-ranging your geographical preferences are. You will all do fine. (Welcome back doctor who - like lee and wilddog, I'm happy to see you here)

I have heard that the room is "cold as a meat locker" and to bring a warm sweater. Is this so?

I found it to be a comfortable, fair and quiet (other than people typing) test environment. You can take a sweater and use it if needed. Take food and drink if you want (keep it on the floor), and the proctors are very nice and helpful. Relax, don't drink too much coffee, and you will find it to be a relatively painless experience. All comments above about the test being fair are accurate.

How many people take the WD in a single scheduled session? 10, 20, 30?
