Stupid question. This has been no small financial and emotional investment. If I end up being happy with my score but nothing is open in my geographic area, will I need to go through this process again to be considered for future vacancies in a few years?

The OPM announcement said that the register (to which you will be added once you finish the WD and SI) will be good until 2010. Unless they decide to hold onto this register and keep adding names, it appears that they can scrap it in 2010 and start from scratch. If the register gets scrapped and you are still sitting on it, then yes you might have to do it all again including the application.

That would be harsh for those of us who made it to the final interview and were ultimately not selcted.
