Wonder what will happen to the new hiring for aljs if Obama enacts a freeze on government hiring? Scary. Am I wasting my time and money?

Nope. Not afraid.
Obama loves federal government employees. He loves big government, the bigger the better. He has recognized the backlog and apparently intends to try to do something about it.
Anything is possible but there is really no point in worrying about it. A meteor might strike ODAR headquarters too, but the odds are slim.

I agree; I was relieved, because I think there definitely would have been a freeze had McCain been elected!

I doubt it. McCain joined with Bush and Obama in believing that the best way out of our economic mess is for the govt to spend more money.
And despite what he said while campaigining, McCain loved big govt and big govt budgets.
