I could live pretty well in Oklahoma on 116k per year. Cost of living here is low.

8-)ALJ pay is capped at level III of the executive schedule, at present, $152,000. Congress has given themselves a raise, so this may change. I read where 43 percent of the ALJ workforce is at the cap, but pay compression doesn't seem to have any serious toll on recruitment and retention.
