For those of us who will be going to DC for both the WD and SI, once a certificate is issued in a city of our choosing, will we have to interview in DC (I mean, Falls Church, VA)? In other words, every potential ALJ will always have to travel to DC at least three times?

The SSA HOCALJ/RCALJ interview had been conducted in Falls Church in 2008.

Some lucky people got dates back to back or within the same week for WD and SI so they only made one trip to DC (for OPM) and one trip to DC with a cab ride to Falls Church for the interview at the Office of the Chief ALJ for ODAR. The rest of us had to make 3 trips.
The good news is that ODAR pays for the trip if they get your name on a certificate.
