Does anyone know whether what Nonamouse calls the transfer "dance" is over? For any of you who are currently working in ODAR offices, have you gotten a transfer ALJ yet or been told that you will be getting one? Just wondering when the dance will be over so we might get something of an idea as to where the openings will be when the dust settles.

Does anyone know if there are any openings in the Northeast - specifically the NYC area?

Does anyone know if there are any openings in the Northeast - specifically the NYC area? Openings are very hard to predict. There are a lot of offices across the country with "openings" if you mean they have the caseload and a vacant ALJ office. But Falls Church decides which offices will have empty slots to be filled. Every office that would like another ALJ won't be on the list as selected by Falls Church. Perhaps someone here will have a better idea of the NY area than I. In the past couple of hires the souteast (region 4) has gotten a lot more ALJ's than in the past. New England has gotten very little.

Believe it or not, but Headquarters does a case flow analysis before deciding where new judges are needed and will be assigned. Of course there has to be room for them, or room to build new offices, before they are assigned to a hearing office. As most offices need new judges, it appears to the observer that the only factor is the availability of office space. One factor not considered by Headquarters in the assignment of new judges is sufficiency of office staff to support them. While Headquarters decides on the placement of new judges, it leaves the assignment of support staff to the regional offices. This is a topic for another discussion. It is one of those areas that many of you--especially outsiders--wouldn't believe what I would tell you. Pix.

"Flow analysis" now that is the truth if I ever heard it. They are very good in the "flowing "department. LOL

Hi. I'm new to this listserve so please forgive me if the question has been asked and answered before. Assuming I am ranked high enough, and SSA or another agency is interested in me, is there an opportunity to state preferences of geographical location or is it just a matter of declining and hoping for an offer from a place I'd rather be? Second question: What openings do you know of in the Bay Area (i.e., Oakland and SF)? You might want to read the old threads from 2007 and 2008 regarding the hiring process. There have been extensive explanations of the process. No one can accurately predict where new hires will go at this point because there may or may not be transfers to cities and an open office does not always mean someone is hired for that office.

I know of one judge who has been offered a transfer to City A--he declined--and another judge who has a pending transfer request to the same city who has not been contacted. So, I would say the musical chairs transfer game is not over.

Thank you, ALJ, for this useful information. I guess the musical chairs will continue to move. Too bad there is not some kind of time limitation on these transfers to give the process a little more finitude. Thanks again,
Flannery

Could anyone give me any insight to openings in the Maryland/Virginia area (particularly Rockville, Maryland if you can)? Thank you! ;D
