Last year about 5 to 10 posters got jobs with other agencies; DOL, HUD, etc. They all had at least 80+ scores and most had in the high 80's, low 90's. I miss their insightful posts.
I would ask that if anyone finds out that they are on one of their certs, please post it. They can move faster than SSA and may be sending emails or calling very soon. Thanks.

Does anyone know how many candidates are hired for agencies other than SSA? PA's comment would make it appear that the numbers are almost negligible. It really makes one wonder at the OPM logic of refusing an SSA specific register.

It really makes one wonder at the OPM logic of refusing an SSA specific register. Very few were hired by other agencies. OPM has no legal authority to create an SSA specific register.

Because of the rule of three (OPM provides three names for every opening) many other agencies hire from the ranks of practicing ALJs. This gives the agencies many more applicants to choose from. Recently, Coast Guard, Medicare and SEC have all posted jobs. Not sure if they have been filled or how many people they hired.

I was told that a very high scoring applicant was hired straight off the list by DOL last year. I believe this person had substantial prior experience including time in an adjudicatory (non ALJ) role.

only one person went off of the register to HUD last year, and that was AFTER SSA did it's hiring I don't think SSA asked for a DC cert last year, and I think OMHA also only asked for non DC sites, so that person would have been one of the top 3 for DC. Have to wonder if that person didn't list any other sites.

My understanding is that there are approximately 1,150 to 1,250 sitting ALJs with SSA and approximately 250 sitting ALJs with all other federal agencies, combined. (Rough numbers). So there are many fewer vacancies for the other agencies at any given time. Last year, several tried to hire before SSA, which may mean not so many openings this year.
